This is a must see while staying in Akureyri. Nothing gets you in the holiday spirit like paying a visit to the christmas garden.
was a different kind of place ... not quite what was expected ... but still worth a 20 min visit and the 5 min drive off of route #1
I thought it might be super-markety but we had learned to trust Icelandic advice!mThere were real hand-knitted gloves and hats for adults and children for sale plus hand-spun yarn and evidence of a spinner...we went late and looked like they had gone home but spinning wheel was still there and yarn for sale. Little kids were buying sweet candy...not commercial seeming at all...very local...even a cool dude with rude reindeer on ski hat (will NOT post the photo) was shopping there.
This place was the best! We stopped in to see a Christmas shop and we got way more than expected! The man that runs the place was unbelievably nice and gave us a lot of wonderful information about Iceland. He even let us sample some traditional Icelandic food and bread! We had a wonderful time at this stop. The Christmas shop has a lot of nice items, but the welcoming attitude of the man running the shop made this stop extra special! Stop in and check it out!
We went to the Christmas store at night, so it was difficult to see the garden and the cider stand was closed. We were able to go into the store. When I travel internationally I always like to pick up holiday decorations which are in keeping with the culture. This was a great place to do so. Lots of decorations made in Iceland. I took home several items which I know I will cherish for years.
We go there every year before christmas with the kids and we all love it. They have icelandic jule lads but also the american santa and lots lots of very beautiful ornaments. The garden is also lovly and adventure to walk through. I highly recommend this activity for all travelers that come to Akureyri.
The Christmas Garden was a very fun and good visit. Bedide the Christmas Garden there was also some very nice Iclandic homemade stuff - fx. honney, sirup, yarn, food, popcorn
Very quaint and cute little place but it is very crowded and cramped inside. Seems to need a bit of updating. A new shop was added outside and there is a little coffee stand outside also.
a true Christmas gem, everything and more you could possible want at Christmas time, lovely decorated house/shop, very pleasant and friendly helpful man. prices are reasonable too. well worth a visit..
Very nice place to visit while in Akureyri. It as a lot of ornaments for christmas, both international and some Icelandic. I would have liked them to have more handcraft from iceland. Nice place.
