We should have purchased the 10 or 20 ticket book, since we were here so often during the 2 weeks we stayed in Alburgh. The park has an awesome sand beach, and the entry into the lake is shallow (great for little kids) and sandy. There are plenty of picnic tables, shaded and unshaded, and lots of room on the beach for sand castles.
We were just driving through the Lake Champlain islands looking for someplace to go. This was a fantastic place for families with young kids. Nice little beach where water is very shallow for very far out. Could also rent a canoe. Plan on going back.
We visited late in the afternoon, and while no one was manning the entrance booth, and we were on the honor system to pay, there were plenty of reminders to pay once we started to explore. There is a sand beach, pretty narrow, but we could only find one sand dune.
A small little park, but a lovely beach. A few picnic tables and parking spots in the shade. The beach is shallow and you have to walk a bit to swim, but the water is crystal clear and sheltered from the wind! Also a very nice crew at the gate, always refreshing! They also take Canadian $$ so we didn't have to use an ATMWe missed the turn the first time, there are only one sign in each direction, so turn off at the first road south!
This is a beautiful state park. Depending on the time of day you visit it can be noisy-like any other beach- or very quiet and peaceful-after the kids leave! The ranger told us the water was up 17 feet higher than normal this summer making the beach area very small. On the flip side you can walk about 250 feet out on a beautiful sandy lake bed (normally the dune). We visited two different days in the same week. The first day the water was a comfortable 75 degrees or so. The second name the temperature had dropped and the water numbed ones feet. The sand is very clean and the park is well maintained. The kids loved being able to run around and play. This is a state park therefore a fee to get in. And don't forget your cooler!
It is worth the drive to head up through the Champlain Islands towards Canada to visit Alburgh Dunes State Park! Its not huge, but its not tiny either. Best way to describe it is "cute" It can get busy but i have not ever seen it over crowded. The water is VERY shallow and as a result, quite warm too for VT standards. You can walk out at least 100 feet, sometimes more before it gets deep. Great for kids, or strolling couples. No changing rooms or food area, so you will have to change in the car or in the port-o-let. Bring your picnic or cookout. This is such a cool place. Just writing this review is making me think i will take the 45 minute drive to head back up again tomorrow
This park is clean and has lots of space for swimming and activities. The water has been high but they are testing the water regularly. Enjoy a swim here!
This is a nice beach with a great southern exposure on Lake Champlain. The water is very shallow for quite a way out with a nice sandy bottom all the way which makes it ideal for small children (as well as older ones) and elderly folks. There are a few picnic tables and fixed bar-b-que units available, if you get there on time. The only time I would not recommend going is when there is a strong wind from the south. The waves get quite high and the water can be quite rough. Well worth visiting on a nice day.
I had the pleasure of visiting this small natural sand beach at the northern shore of Lake Champlain. Didn't bring the beach chairs, but I could see this would be a very nice place to relax on a summer day.
Nice state park that has plenty of picnic tables, kayaks to rent, as well as grills if so inclined. Very popular place for families as the lake shore area is very sandy and the water not too deep. Lots of boaters, as well as swimmers!
