As apart of full disclosure, my brother is one of the captains. I have gone on many trips, and I am fully confident ANYONE (group of guys, girls, kids, co-workers, my 60 year old mom) will have a blast. First off, the lake is beautiful and makes for incredible pictures (which is always great for any vacation activity). Being on the boat is simply fun. No other way to put it. You can ask questions about the lakes history, learn the cool gadgets and equipment, check out the pics of fish caught, or just relax. Anyone can do it. The first mate and captain will identify the fish on (very exciting!) or maybe you, yourself, will see a bite and set the hook (a very gratifying feeling). Plus, you don't have to burn a bunch of days of vacation to do it...just need a day. These boys catch fish, and if luck will have it on your day, very big fish. If you want an adrenaline rush, pull in a king from 150 yards out. No matter what shape you're in, you will feel the burn and the sweet feeling of success in landing one which you can celebrate with all your comrades (on the boat or at a great marina bar setting after). And finally, maybe the best part, you get to watch these guys clean your fish at alarming speeds, take home what you catch, and impress everyone with how good tasting and easy salmon or trout are to prepare. It's healthy and damn good. So, you get an experience on the big water, an experience with big boats and fish, and some great meals long after the trip is done. It's a perfect summer excursion. Now you could say this is biased. It is because I've done it. I've never met anyone who is more committed and genuinely enjoys getting people in situations to succeed, whether it be hunting or fishing, than my brother. They are very committed to giving you a great experience. Dress warm...the temps on the lake can be quite different than on land. Enjoy!
I booked a fishing trip with Kinns for my Dad and I for Fathers Day, I chose a package deal with lodging in the condos. The weather fronts that passed through the state slowed the fishing, I am an experienced fisherman and understand these things, its part of the sport. The Capt and the 1st mate were young guys but put what I felt was a good effort trying to get us hook ups, the fish were there on the graph. We managed to get two nice King salmon and one Steelhead for the time we were on the water, two 4 hour trips, one afternoon and one morning. We did have one more fish get off after hook up and the Capt seemed to blame us for it getting off. One of the fish was a very nice King salmon, I posted a pic of it on the Kinns Facebook page but the pic was taken down and replaced by a pic of the Capt of our boat holding the fish instead, pretty laughable. I hope to charter a boat some day where the crew would maybe explain the hows and whys of what the strategy is and tackle used, we got none of it on this trip but it could be due to the youth of the crew. I would recommend Kinns to anyone who asks me for a Lake Michigan charter.
This is our second year using Kinns. The south condos are nice and sleep 6 easily. The fishing was a bust this year. Our Friday outing was canceled because of very high wind and the waves made it un-fishable. Our captain Hunter kept in touch during the afternoon to let us know if the weather broke which it did not.Day two was a bit better. Hunter and his brother Logan let us go out early to make up for part of the short fall the day before. We caught three fish between the four of us. The crew did the best they could in the situation given. We re-booked for the same weekend next year. The fishing was off. One thing I did learn is that we could have had the option to rebook later in the learn. The Kinn's team is great to work with and Algoma is a fun town to visit. I will come back again and work with these guys without hesitation in 2014
These Guys know fishing! I would recommend them to anyone interested in booking a charter fishing trip on Lake Michigan. They are very knowledgeable, and passionate about fishing, and will do whatever it takes to make sure that your trip is enjoyable for its entirety!
Fun fishing. Went on the two day, 5 hour each day guided fishing trips Had a blast. Caught lots of fish. We've done it before. Like staying in the condos best but the motel is very accommodating.
Capt. Troy and his staff really know the lake and how to entice fish to strike. While we've experienced everything from "easy" limits to a rare slow day through the years, on average we hit very good salmon and trout fishing. Kinn's has nice, private accommodations right across the highway from the lake that make it a real vacation if you want to stay a day or two. For those who just come over for the day, bring your camera, sunglasses, warm clothes (it can get chilly on the water, especially at dawn) and a positive attitude. Oh yeah, and a cooler. There's an above average chance you'll be packing it with colorful, tasty fillets that are incredible grilled, baked, smoked or pan-fried!
We recently did a salmon trip in Winthrop Harbor. It was so much fun!! There were 6 of us, (3 couples) and we got our limits both days. First day in 1 1/2 hours and second day in 30 minutes. My first time doing a charter trip like this, and the Captain kept reminding us that this isn't normal. Some days you don't get your limits - and if so, it usually doesn't happen that quickly. It was amazing at how fast the first mate fileted our catch and bagged them. By the time we got to the dock, our salmon were ready to put in our coolers! Already booked our trip for next year.
One of the best fishing trips I have been on in a long time! Very polite group of people and they know how to fish. Was never a dull moment. I would recommend Kinn's Sport Fishing to anyone and everyone. The condos they have to offer are 5 star. I'll be back next year for another trip!
My husband and I booked a fishing trip to Algoma to fish for salmon. We weren't disappointed! We boarded at 4:30 and by 5:15 am we were pulling in large salmon from 15 to 21 pounds. We eventually caught 7 fish--chinook,King and Rainbow along with a lamprey eel. Three fish got off. The deck hands were fun, knowledgeable and professional. We would and have recommended Kinns to anyone looking for an exciting charter. The boat was plenty big with a bathroom. We plan on going back again!
This was our families first charter fishing trip & we chose Kinn's because of the great reviews. We went out on Obsession IV with Caption Alex. I can't remember the first mates name but honestly he did not impress us. He is the reason I did not give this trip a excellent rating. He seemed to me worried about checking his cell phone every 5 minutes & smoked about 4 cigarettes right in front of us & our kids. I didn't find that very professional. We had booked a 5 hour afternoon trip & the fishing was very slow. We only had 4 bites & brought in 2 fish. My husband & kids still had a blast. Myself however didn't enjoy the trip very much because I got sea sick. Captain Alex tried his best to make me comfortable but nothing was working. So after about 4 hours on the water we went back to harbor early. I'm sure we would have caught more if we could have stayed in the deeper water but my stomach wasn't having it. We plan on booking another trip with Kinn's next year for my husband & kids. I on the other hand will be hanging out in our hotel room!
