Currently under renovation, the cathedral is lovely in the interior with high ceilings, great art work, beautiful frescos and a calming energy. Be sure to bring your camera. When the days get hot outside, it is a great place to cool down (and even get some shut eye). The church dominates the square with governmental buildings surrounding it. There are lots of places to eat in the area for lunch or to get a quick coffee.
Dominating the view from the central square. Impressive interior, assorted ruins outside. Visited as part of a walking tour of the city.
The cathedral is absolutely beautiful to view as you stroll around the Plaza. You have to imagine how magnificent it looked back in the 1500's. What an amazing history it has.
the Cathedral is very nice, located close to the main square, with a very nice museum behind it - ruins of the old part before the earthquake
The cathedral is beautiful, but the real treat is touring the ruins behind. Use your imagination to picture how impressive the original cathedral must have been...
When you visit Santiago Atitlan you must visit one of the oldest churches (1548) of Guatemala just behind the market. You will be surprised of the clothing of the statues and the atmosphere in the church and the monastery behind. After that you can visit Maximom.
The cathedral at Antigua is beautiful and we walked on streets and was very nice our walking tour.We recomend to visit antigua and its cathedral, in fact you can eat delicious meals in any resturant.
The Cathedral de Satiago is situated at the heart of the city and can be prominently seen from many angles of the city. It is also next to the Central Park. Visitors can take the picture from the park or sit and admire it from the shade of the trees in the park. The visit to the Cathedral should be part of a walking tour of the city. I happened to visit while a mass was conducted. Although not a Christian, I attended the mass before wandering out to have dinner. La Catedral de Santiago en Antigua es un lugar para visitar cuando va a la ciudad.
Even though there are repairs going on due to the recent earthquake (which for me is kind of neat) this place is still very beautiful. The design is very nice.
lovely building with interesting past. There was a school-leaver's ceremony taking place when we were there, sharp contrast to the leaver's rituals in UK
