Interesting hour underground. We had a fabulous and enthusiastic guide whose English was better than ours. Although the 500 meter tour through cellars and up/down stairs takes an hour, without the dialog the walk takes 10 minutes (the guide brought me back through to look for a dropped glove).Very enjoyable telling of local history as it related to the cellars. It is an hour and 6 euros each well spent.It is not a rugged, bat filled or dusty adventure. It is a commercial, well lit, safe walk though commercial spaces and a few well placed scenes w/ mannequins. Steps are well shaped, frequent bricks on floors and spayed concrete to stabilize some of the passage walls.Starts from the town (stadt) museum in the city center.Recommended, but Miss Marple would be more appropriate than Indiana Jones on the advertising.

Guided tours in language groups. The guides are mainly knowledgeable amateur enthusiasts who love to share their passion with visitors. One hour and 500 meters of history. Until this visit, I never knew why, in castles, some spiral staircases were clockwise and others were anti-clockwise.Interesting snippets of local history and way of life.Nice and cool on a hot summer's day.I am a 68 year old with walking problems but found this attraction well within my capabilities.

Oppenheim is de moeite om te bezoeken. In de ondergrondse kelders die onder de ganse stad lopen leer je de rijke geschiedenis van Oppenheim kennen.Ook de prachtige gotische kerk is de moeite.Het bezoek aan de kelders duurt ongeveer 1,5 u.

Das Kellerlabyrinth in Oppenheim im Altstadtkern rund ums Rathus, 15 km südlich von Mainz, ist einmalig. 420 Meter sind touristrisch erschlossen. Ein großes Potential ist noch nicht erschlossen. Vor einigen Jahren brach die Fahrstraße ein und ein Auto verschwand teilweise. Führungen bietet die Touristinformation an und auch Private, die Eigentümer sind. Es ist ratsam sich für eine Führung bei der Touristinfo Tage vorher anzumelden. Es lohnt sich. Es geht über Treppen und Gänge unter die Erde. Man kann sich Informationsmaterial sich von der Touristinfo Oppenheim schicken lassen.

It was facinating to walk under the town of Oppenheim, it is believed to have once been a series of cellars and passages dug out by the residents, some are several hundred years old, only about 400 mtrs are walkable but it is believed that several miles of tunnels are still waiting to be discovered. The guided walk was very interesting, but not much is known about the cellars only that they were used for storage, so although it was interesting there wasnt much of a story. there are alot of stairs so not suitable for the disabled or elderly. you have to wear hard hats incase you bump your head, but for the most part the ceilings are high enough and it is well lit. not that much to see apart from tunnels and empty cellars. after the tour we were given a free glass of local wine, it cost 3 euros for the guided tour or 10 euros for a family, so it was very good value.

Spent the afteroon here on a beautiful, wam German day. We had made reservations so we would be sure to have an English speaking guide. I believe you have to have 10 or more in the group to ensure this. I paid 23 Euro for my family of four (2 adults and two almost teenage kids). The tour was very good. Our guide spoke excellent English was very good at explaining what is known about the cellars and the connecting tunnels. The tour lasted about an hour and we covered about 400 or so meters underground which was enough to get a good idea how this underground area came to be. There are quite a few stairs/uneven places on the tour but there wasn't anything was particularly difficult to navigate. You are issued a helmet before beginning the tour and it was nice to have in the places where the celiing is low. Overall it was good tour and worth the visit. The rest of the town is also worth a look and a walk around to take in the small town German feel.

Inzwischen sind wir mit fast jedem unserer Gäste schon "unter Tage" gewesen. Es ist einfach faszinierend zu sehen, was vor Jahrhunderten schon entstanden ist. Faszinierend, diese kilometerlangen Keller (und der überirdische Blick, den man nach der Führung plötzlich entwickelt) und die dazugehörigen Geschichten und Anekdoten!Auch die Kellerführung durch die Keller II ist toll, je nach Führer gibt es kurioses, spannendes und einfach faszinierendes zu sehen und zu hören.Mit Gruppen > 5 Personen kann ich eine Privatführung nur empfehlen, ist nicht viel teuerer als der normale Preis, aber viel persönlicher. (Vor allem, weil es dann auch schon mal Blicke hinter die Kulissen gibt).Wer etwas besonderes sehen möchte, sich für Unterirdisches interessiert - hier ist man genau richtig!

Das beschauliche Oppenheim hat es sprichwörtlich 'in sich'. Die über Jahrhunderte angelegten Kellergewölbe unter der Stadt sollte man sich unbedingt ansehen - die Tour in Gewölbe 1 oder 2 dauert jeweils eine gute Stunde und ist für jeden, der einigermaßen trittsicher ist, gut zu bewältigen. Es ist beeindruckend, was hier über die Jahre geschaffen wurde - sei es als Lagerstätte oder Fluchtburg für rauhe Zeiten. Leider musste der ein oder andere Gang mit Spritzbeton ausgkleidet werden - was die Originalität etwas leiden lässt - aber dies geschieht der Sicherheit und Statik der darüberliegenden Häuser wegen und muss natürlich sein. Ein lehrreicher Ausflug für jung und alt - wetterunbhängig noch dazu!
