Very interesting. We were on a bus tour and we enjoyed the museum and tour around the town. Would recommend this tour.
Amazing history to visit. I see something new everytime! I love the chapel, but it is the museum that always moves me.
Boys town has had its ups and downs in what it did for children but now they are reaching all time highs. The orientation center is marvelous in that it tells you about boys town history.
Home for boys inspiring the movie with Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney by the same name " Boys Town" . History at its best.
Although in the suburbs of Omaha, the trip if you're downtown is mostly highway and takes about 25 minutes. I visited Fr. Flannagan's Home, Boys Town Museum and the Catholic Chapel (Where Fr. Flannagan is emtombed). Great history of Boys Town, insight of how Boys Town began and the struggles of Fr. Flannagan. Some very interesting photos and moving tributes of former Boys Town residents, who went on to succeed as productive and happy adults. A moving and worthwhile experience. There is no fee but a donation is welcomed.
We really enjoyed visiting Boys Town and highly recommend the tour to others. The chapel is beautiful and the museum very well organized and interesting. Snowfall kept us from seeing the other historic sites so we will have to return on our next visit to Omaha.
Loved the facilities. Loved the mission, the history and the stories. I decided to visit because Spencer Tracy actually donated his Oscar to Father Flanigan. The Oscar is on display in the Historical House. It's worth seeing up close and personal. They have done a fabulous job in preserving the facilities. You could actually go back in time and feel what it was like. This is a great place to visit if you want to be reminded of how one person can make a difference in this world. You are allowed to take as many pictures as you want and the people who are there are extremely helpful. I wish I would have had more time. I would have loved to learn more about the success stories of the boys and girls whose lives were changed.
Boys Town is a drive from center city but it's a must see. Go to visitors center and take guided tour with a student. There is a self guided walking tour and a self guided driving tour, but the student guide will give you a real feel for life at boys town. Spend some time at the museum there for an excellent picture of the sites development and story. Good fun to see the movie with Spencer Tracey before you go. Loved it.
Really pretty in the fall and spring. Nice place to go for runs or take photos. The churches are both very beautiful and they have a nice garden spot. Also have the post office, health center, school. Very safe though.
I have been around the boys town environment my whole life. They have well trained staff and seem to really make a difference in peoples lives. There have been many success stories from adults who grew up in the boys town experience
