It's quirky. It's a mix of tourists and locals. It's got no pretentions. Some good old country music playing. It's dark. People falling down the narrow stairs. Others waiting forever for the (not) waiter table service! But it's cool when it's 100 F outside.
We popped in on a Weds evening for a drink. There were just 5 customers, a guy paying the guitar and singing plus the lady serving. It was very quiet and due to lack of people, there was no atmosphere, except for cigarette smoke. The whole place, although I guess they want it to appear as "spit and sawdust" affect, was actually really dirty and the toilets were disgusting. Not very healthy place to be. Dont think that we would go back.
We actually came across it by accident. Looking for a cold beer to cool off with and found it as we were antique shopping. Sawdust dance floor and beer signs that you'd only hope to find for sale in a store. Amazing history, it's a must visit if your in the area. Cash only so come prepared.
A friend of mine took me on the "Sunday Ride" in Bandera Texas. Its really a great Sunday mosey on horseback, with a few real salons thrown in for good measure. And arkey's was one of the hoghlights. great misuc, relaxed atmosphere, more horses tied up out front than trucks parked in the lot, and just a general good feeling. If you go to Bandera and you don't go to Arkeys...well hell son, you just ain't been to Bandera.
Popped in to see this bar. There was a group of people round a table singing which gave it a very nice feel. My partner and I had a drink at the bar and the lady behind the bar was friendly.Guys were there playing pool and the language was a bit harsh. Although good I just did not feel that comfortable there. Maybe very good on another day.
I enjoyed the atmosphere in this bar. It is a western style bar and great place to have a quiet beer.
This was the highlight of our trip. The door lady didn't make us pay the cover until we knew we wanted to stay. All of the local people were so sweet and polite. I guess because we were new faces in the bar we kept getting asked to dance and every cowboy in that bar was very polite and fun to dance with. ***this is a cash only bar and you can bring in your own liquor. (We didn't know that) but everyone was quick to help us find an ATM. Overall I would recommend this bar as a "go to spot" to have a good time, good cold beer, and dance on the wood chip covered dance floor.
We went last Wed. It was a little crazy at the 11th St. Cowboy Bar. You enter through the Red door and go down 13 steps to the bar. There is Sawdust on the Floor and a group of people circled up with instruments playing music. The bar has deep graffiti carvings all over it. We felt a little out of place being under 40 but we had a great time.
Sit and sawdust and great fun, especially if Arkie buys a guest round. The photo is of Bandera church though and not the Silver Dollar
A real honky tonk, great ambiance, and great bar tender Karen! Go there and n-joy music, dance nd drinks. Be good y'all. We will be back
