Charming and quaint, this town is preserved to display it's love of heritage and history. One of the best preserved historical districts I've seen in Texas.
Volunteer at info centre/museum very friendly and helpful. Art tours on Friday evening interesting. Shame the quilt shop had to close but lots of little interesting shops and cafes to explore.
The downtown area of Bastrop is pretty funky..it has cool art shops and restaurants-there is always something going on...I bought my daughter a painting on an art tour-very cool as the artist was there.I think Bastrop is a very underrated little central Texas town... quite frankly, I would like to keep it that way as Austin has lost most of its charm in its quest to be Manhattan,Texas.Stay in Bastrop instead and you will thank me.
The town is very beautiful, the people are friendly and welcoming. Most of the building will have a historic sign on them give you all the info you need. Well done Bastrop, you have a great town, we really enjoyed our visit.
Three of my friends and I visited Bastrop for a girl's trip. It exceeded our expectations. The historicity is quaint and cute. Be aware several buildings are boarded up but there are plenty of restaurants, a museum and several great boutiques. The wine shop is outstanding with. Umerous selections in wine, gifts, and believe it or not sun glasses. One day is plenty But it would be a fun day
This is a town within a town. Set up for tourists to browse, buy and learn from the museum or notice boards. It was also great to visit a bank, post office and pharmacy after a tasty brunch. Worth getting off the highway for, and behind has a view of a creek. One area had old farm equipment to see , the old main street, with Neighbours resturant to eat in. Liked it,
Looking for a quaint place to stroll and shop? Well, Bastrop TX is the place to go; shops, eateries, bars, opera house, and so much more. So, if you want a day trip or a weekend adventure this is the place to go.
I love the feeling of this small town downtown. Nice shops along Main street with varied shopping. So lucky to live here and shop small businesses.
I've always known Bastrop was there but I had never gone downtown before and almost did not go this time. I was amazed at what I found. I have never sceen such a well preserved "old texas town". I will go back when I have more time to spend there. I am thankful for the hotel employee that told me to go see it. Don't miss the downtown musem.
Bastrop has made a concerted effort to save the old buildings that were built before 1900. And a real treasure trove of wonderful old homes after touring downtown . Would like to comeback and do some further side streets.
