This zoo is honestly depressing, theres very few animals and the ones they have look like they want to kill themselves. I only take my son here for the BOO at the Zoo which is horribly ran each year. The lines are long as if they don't expect such a turn out. Nothing seems to be ran efficiently at this zoo. The train, don't waste the $2 that they charge you, it circles the back of the zoo mostly in woods with nothing to see. One of the look at attractions is a box of 3 turtles that you would have in your home as a child.Don't waste your time or money unless your'e looking to depress yourself. Drive to new orleans for a much better experience.
Its an old zoo and some of the enclosures are a bit small for the animals. That said, they all look to be in good health and are well cared for. They have some rare animals and very friendly staff. Its also very cheap to visit - less than $10 for an adult.
Went with some friends and their kids. Nothing comparable to a big city zoo but interesting and a fun outing.
Was impressed at the Baton Rouge Zoo. Landscape was really cool and lots of birds and other mammals there. Even got to see a baby porcupine looking thing. Zoo person who had porcupine was very up to speed on the ins and outs of it. If you are a hobby photographer, you can take some really cool pics here. Kids will also love this place as theirs animals everywhere you turn your head. If you go during the summer, bring water and an umbrella or a wet towel to put on your head. Also bring sunscreen, especially for the little ones...
We used to bring our children here often when they were small. It was a great place to get them out and expose them to different animals. Over the years the zoo has fallen into disrepair and seems neglected. I know the newest manager is trying to revive it. The new tiger exhibit is a great example of that.
The Baton Rouge Zoo is a great place to spend an afternoon with grandkids! Well kept natural habitat, nice variety of animals, snack bar, picnic area, a train to ride--all fun!
Go and see the new tiger cubs!! This zoo has a nice assortment of animals to see and experience and a great little gift shop... Enjoy!
This is not the closest zoo to our home, but it is by far our favorite. We love the size for a day trip. Not as interesting as the New Orleans Zoo, but perfect for the kids during the summer. Just the right size to keep them interested without becoming too hot or tired. We wish they still had the elephants, but still a great Zoo. The price is amazing!!!
It's located in north Baton Rouge, passed the airport in Baker. A little bit of a drive to get too. Once here, you'll enjoy your visit. Be sure to purchase a ticket to ride the train especially if you have young kids. The recently renovated "Big Cat" house is very well done.
The zoo was nice, but it wasn't the greatest. It could have a lot more potential. We took our time taking pictures. It took about 3 hours to walk through it. There were not as many animals as I would have thought we would have seen. Lots of birds & monkeys. Price to get in was good, although only children under 1 get in free.. ?? That seems a little odd and in my opinion should be at least 2 or 3 & under free. Overall for something to do it's worth the price.
