This castle has been restored beautifully and has many interesting exhibits including a sampling of weapons and costumes. It is situated as many castles are, at the confluence of two rivers making for a scenic backdrop.
With friends visited this castle during a short tour of Latvia.Bauskas Castle is located in a between rivers - Musa and Memel. Near the place, where rivers mergers and start new river Lielupė. Bauskas Castle architectural ensemble consists of two parts. The older - the Livonian Order Castle - built in the 15th century, but in our time lies in ruins. Newer - Kurland dukes residence - was built in the 16th century. In Duke's residence is located a permanent museum exhibition and thematic exhibitions. Visitors can see the ruins of the castle of the Order, to rise to the central tower and view Bauska panorama. The price of tickets 4 euros, for children, cheaper ...Recommend to visit for 2 hours.
Bauska Castle is a nice refurbished castle not far from the more famous Rundale Palace. The castle is in the process of being refurbished, so not all of the castle is available for viewing.Parts of the interior are a museum telling the history of the area and examples of weapons, clothing and household artifacts from medieval days. You can climb the tower to get views of the entire area. There are several "activities" for kids (stocks; archery; make your own medieval coin with a sledge hammer). I made several coins for gifts for my young grandnephews.Other comments: nice cafe next to the Castle; modest amount of walking; not wheelchair friendly.
