If you've been to 1 Natural Science museum you've been to them all. This one is full of animals from Italy and other counties as well... great for kids, OK for adults.
The Natural Science Museum was well done -- had some animals I'd never heard of before -- wonderful for kids, but very nice for two older people like us. The archeology part had very interesting artifacts from Africa, and also from native North America.
Very interesting Museum and free entry too! Loved all the bird song examples which really was for the benefit of the children visiting the museum!
This museum wasn't any different to Science museums the world over, but if you're in the area, or you want to take the kids then it's great. The giant Mammoth is the best and I liked the detail they had around every area. Their displays are very informative.
We came here as an activity to do on a very wet day. Entry is free and they had quite a lot of exhibits despite being quite a small-scale museum. There is a huge mammoth just after you enter and it really gives you a good impression of how huge these creatures were. I very much enjoyed looking around and I think there was a coffee machine with a couple of tables so you could have a drink. We spent a couple of hours here and still have some more to look at on another visit. It is true that the signs are in Italian, but with my basic Italian I managed to get by and even without extra information, you can still enjoy looking!
The museum can be reached from the lower city (citta bassa) with the bus nr 1 "aeroporto-citta alta". Actually it is at the end of the route of bus nr 1 so one can't get lost or get off at the wrong stop. A huge (rather old) mamoth welcomes the visitors. The museum has a big collection of embalmed birds, animals and reptiles. It is very interesting for the kids. They can see a variety of samples in the available microscopes and can also push the buttons in a big board in order to listen to various birds singing. There is also a place for the kids to draw & a small room where one can rest or drink a coffee. Then there's a big exhibition of african and american-indian art.The entrance is free. There's no gift shop but one can buy the museums postcards for a very reasonable price. The museum is somewhat neglected but one can see that it is a museum with a long history. We spend two rainy hours in it and my kids loved it.
