The carousels in our area are great (and free). Unfortunately they're only open during the summer months. The kids want to stay on over and over again. We usually just change horses when the music stops, for four or five rides.
The carousel is a real treasure in the park. My wife and I took a free ride and it was great. The carousel is beautifully restored and we learned that Binghamton is the "carousel capital of the world"
This is a traditional carousel that has been restored but still plays the traditional carousel music that my husband & I like. It is located in Recreation Park which has a bandstand, picnic tables, slides, swings, tennis court & ball field. Carousel rides are free. This Christmas for 3 weekends they have opened up the carousel & are giving rides. Santa is there, the carousel is lit with Christmas lights & is playing Christmas carols. The grandkids probably rode it about 7 times. My husband & I never miss a chance to ride the carousel.
This brings any baby boomer back to the 1950's when almost every park had a Merry Go Round. This is a genuine original carousel with horses of all styles, some a little worse for wear but grand no less. A great thrill for all ages
A real treat - old fashioned carousels throughout the Binghamton area - FREE and fun for all ages. Went with two teenagers and we all liked it. They don't open till noon so we had to wait a few minutes but it was worth it. A bit of history to enjoy for free.
I loved this park and the carousel. A lot of fun. The horses are old fashioned and the carousel is so big. The park is really nice. Didn't know this park was there. I had a nice time there. Would recommend visiting here.
We've been going to the Rec Park Carousel for many years. In fact, our parents went there as children themselves. Well worth the trip to ride an authentic, historic carousel in a beautiful park setting!
Please be sure to visit and truly enjoy the lovely sights and sounds of this amazing historical treasure. There are a number of others in the area to be sure to experience as well (Binghamton and the surrounding area is the Carousel Capital of the World - offering 6 of the world's 170 carousels). Rec Park as it is known by locals has a beautiful carousel and also a pool plus swings and if none of that is your "thing", simply walking among the beautiful trees is well worth the trip. A simple but beautiful way to spend a few hours on a sunny afternoon.
the carousel is great, the speed is medium some around town are much faster, i think this was plenty fast. there is a public pool play ground. lots of kids. and ice cream truck was there when we went!
SO MUCH FUN and it is, the the original benefactor of the park decreed, FREE. A must see and must ride. one of 3 in the area.
