We always have a great time with good people. The caverns are a natural beauty and a great place to spend part of your day. You can do a walking tour or as they did on this tour crawl getting wet and muddy ....it is a blast !! Thanks for the review and the visit. Call us when you get ready to bring more friends for the adventure to remember. Appalachian Caverns
Thank You for the great review ! The caving experience and Randy make for a great adventure fitting into those places are more than most people would ever consider. Your comfort zone will be expanded on this tour and you will be telling your friends about this adventure for years to come. Thanks again for your visit to Appalachian Caverns
We went to Appalachian Caverns on a Thursday afternoon the last week of August. We have been to 10-11 caves prior to this. Although this is a lesser-known cave in Tennessee near Bristol Caverns, we thoroughly enjoyed it! This cave was not as easy to find (signage) as is Bristol Caverns due to, we were told, county-related issues, but it was well worth the cross-trekking to find it! We were the only customers there at 11:00, but that allowed the guide/owner(?) more time to tell us about the rock formations and history. They are dog-friendly, too, (which we didn't know) and their own dog accompanied us on the entire walk through the caverns. There is a creek/river which flows through the cave and is heard almost immediately upon entering. Our guide was friendly, informative, and funny. If he had told us his name we would have loved to say 'thank you' to him. Loved it and wish you continued success!
The review says not for the elderly or younger children ... we have a guide that sometimes takes the tours he is 86 years old and we have pre-school classes come for the tour. If you want to get dirty we offer crawling tours and that is a wet and muddy tour by design. We have about 3,000 students and another 1,000 from church groups along with tourist from around the world without one injury on our walking tours since I have been here (over the past 10 years). Some caves are not for everyone and this cavern was not for you, we encourage you to try other caverns to see what caving is all about. This is an awesome cavern He has made and we look forward to showing our visitors what we have here in East TN.
We opted for the spelunking tour as opposed to the walking tour hoping to have an adventure. We were not disappointed! For 2 hours we contorted our bodies through cracks and crevices while slithering in mud and watching the silver sparkle of the minerals off the shine of our headlamps. Our guide, Randy did a fantastic job helping us overcome some of our fears and hang ups in a really fun way. Would definitely encourage all to try!
Thanks for the review the cave is Awesome and we look forward to showing this part of His creation to all our friends and new friends we meet throughout the years to come.
When you take a tour with a school group we try to keep the kids attention with what they like. We also allow the kids to do a "test" crawl that will get the dirty if the teacher allows them to crawl. The cavern has a great history and to cover all that it has on any tour would be impossible for the regular tour. The experience you have each time will not be the same but if you want the school rate for your tour you should expect the school tour. Kids are looking for some formations but mostly what looks like something else and any animals they can hear about.Appalachian Caverns tours are safe and well guided, if you come on a day when it rains you will get wetter than normal. If you want to crawl on the regular tour we may allow the "test" crawl to be done.....and you will get dirty if you do that. Dirt happens when you are underground but it only gets on the bottom of your shoes unless you do something other than walk.
Thank You for the review. Each cave is different and for some we are not what they are looking for but we are glad this was right for you. We look forward to your return back to Appalachian Caverns and maybe doing the more advanced tour. If you want to do that tour please remember to call ahead and plan for an adventure.Looking forward to your return visit
We had a great time also...stuck not really maybe a little delayed but not stuck. lolThanks for the kind words, there is a song I am no "angel" maybe it was the fact we all had to come back where you were anyway so we needed to get you out for our sake.We would welcome your visit along with your grandson anytime and maybe we can do a simple crawl on our regular walking tour, so come prepared. Thanks again
Took my 13 year old son, his friend and my 15 year daughter to do the Wild Tour. My wife did the walking tour with our smaller child. The 2 guides were very familiar with the caverns and history of the cave. Prepare on the wild tour to get muddy, wet and challenged. If you want an adventure do this tour. Also it is very competitively priced. Hot water showers are included in the price. Take a plastic bag for your dirty clothes afterwards.
