Come to Burlington, bring your bike or rent one. Our bike path has a summer season ferry which will take you to Grand Island, you can ride around, or take the lake ferries to get to routes to NY and Quebec.http://www.localmotion.org/programs/islandline/bike-ferry
Always with breathtaking views. Well maintained. Takes you along the lake shore line and into the city and museums. Best maple creamees just outside Echo museum for adults and kids
Great traffic-free path. It runs much further than advertised if you head on to the causeway that runs several miles into the lake.Bike rentals from the Ski place are great value - something like $40USD for a tandem for a half day.
Not much to dislike here, you can rest or walk while enjoying the view. It's very relaxing and calm even though there's a lot of people in the area.
Not a long bike trail, but a wonderful bike path. An easy ride, with a few slight hills. The views of Lake Champlain are outstanding. The path seems to be a favorite of the locals and the people you meet along the way were friendly.
Background: Having lived in the Burlington area for 26 years, it's easy to take for granted what World Class attractions we have right at our doorstep. The Burlington Bike Path (we call it the Burlington Recreation Path) has world class lake and mountain views right on the lake.Tip: If you want hustle and bustle: there are plenty of places to eat or snack right in Downtown Burlington. Plus there are spectacular views. But if you are able to bike on a gentle grade, don'tmiss biking the causeway in Mallets Bay, Colchester, where the bike path is not just on the lake shore, but has water, water everywhere, where you are literally biking with the lake on one sideand the bay on the other. Plus there are the Adirondack Mountains to the West and the Green Mountains to the East! This is World Class, easy to get to, and easy to enjoy!Maps are attached below: http://www.btvbikepath.com/rehabilitation.asphttp://colchestervt.gov/Recreation/Causeway.html
This former railway route has been converted into an excellent scenic bike path near the shores of Lake Champlain. One can ride from Shelburne up through Burlington, across the mouth of the Winooski River, and out on the old railroad causeway across the lake itself, almost to Grand Isle. It is almost enitrely level, no real hills and only a slight slope here and there. But be prepared to use your lower gears if you have to go against the strong winds that sometimes blow across the lake.
I grew up in Burlington; the waterfront was not an attraction then. Now, with the bikepath, I really love to get down and get a workout. Beautiful and well maintained.
I suspect it has been named to a list somewhere of best bike paths in the country! Soo scenic! if possible: 1) go midweek to avoid crowds and 2) Bike north to Colchester, out onto causeway, and then take the bike ferry across "the cut" so you can continue biking into So. Hero. Check the ferry schedule first. Contact Local Motion on the bike path downtown Burlington. Rentals and maps available there.
The bike path runs along the Burlington waterfront where the views are spectacular. The path goes all the way up to Mallets bay where there is a bike ferry sometimes operates to take you across.
