The first wine I ever tried and ACTUALLY LIKED came from this winery and its still one of my favorites. Concord is made from the same grapes as jam... and it tastes nearly as sweet. Most sweet wines taste bland and watery to me (in general my favorites are merlot and malbec) but this wine has character! In general their sweet wines are best, but the drier wines have come a long way in the last few years. Their new building is gorgeous, and they have nice gift sets ready to take with you for the hard to please person on your gift giving list. Well worth stopping.
One of my favorite wineries in Berks County. Like visiting the Tasting Room at the Reading Farmers Market. Catawba, Rose and Vignoles are some of my personal favs. Have to open my bottle of Passion fruit I'm sure that will make the list too.
We organized a wine tour of Berks county and since we live in Lehigh county we figured we would start and end at Clover Hill. We rented a limo so that we could taste and not worry about it. We met at Clover Hill, tasted there and jumped into the limo and had a great day at 4 Berks County Wineries. When we arrived back Clover Hill we were met by a very rude individual that told us that we were taking up 4 spots in his parking lot. He further explained that he was the owner of the winery. He did not care that we had just spent money touring some of the other wineries in the area, spending money and buying wine at these locations, nor did he care we bought wine at his establishment. All he wanted to tell us was that we were not welcome to leave our four cars in his parking lot. His attitude may be the reason why all his retail stores for his winery are no longer open and in any malls. I could understand this coming from Robert Mondavi or another huge winery that sells all around the world, not someone who relies on local people to sell his wine. Lets be real, the wines of the Lehigh and Berks Counties are not the best wines. We just enjoy the atmosphere and friends while visiting these places. I will continue to spend money in our locally wineries, just not Clover Hill!!
My husband decided to surprise me with a quick stop to check out Clover Hill after we went pumpkin picking at Grim's. While I normally prefer white wine, I decided to try some of the reds. The turtle rock was delicious, as was everything else we tried. The buildings and grounds were gorgeous.
They had an excellent chocolate cabernet that we bought. This is seasonal and gets replaced with others throughout the year. Their Pinot Grigio was quite good and we bought some of this as well. No tasting fee - five tastes max.
We stopped at Clover Hill after a trip to Musikfest. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and well manicured with gigantic sunflowers and other brightly colored flowers. The tasting list was surprisingly long and we were able to try a reserve bottle because they were out of several other dry reds. There was something for everyone on the tasting list, my friends who like sweeter wines loved the passion fruit and I loved the Three reserve blend! They don't let you taste any sparklings so we didn't purchase any (there are other vineyards in the area that allow it!).
Beautiful winery with friendly employees. Have visited twice once in a group and then with my husband. Both times employees were very helpful with tastings and questions when selecting wine. They also have wine themed gifts for purchase. You will be tempted to take a bottle or two home with you.
My husband and I stumbled (not literally) upon this one day during a Sunday drive. First off, the actual winery is like out of a movie. It's beautiful! I was amazed this little gem was tucked in and hidden within fields of farms and other small industries. But, once you enter you are pleasantly pleased how comfortable it actually is.. but remember, it's their wine that brings you back. The customer service at their sample bar was wonderful with her help of suggestions and eliminating upon what we previously tasted and liked. Their shop has so many unique gifts for holidays, Weddings, birthdays, etc. I love, love, love their wine racks. And, their prices were very good. Compare style, quality, and similar product..I couldn't find anyone to even compete. The first trip I think we bought a case of different varieties. The second time, i purchased a case of just Concord. catawba and concord seem to be my favorites. But, my husband loved a chocolate wine, which was sold out less than a week later. This place is well run, well kept, a family business, and no longer a well kept secret!! We brag about it, give it as gifts, and plan on returning in the future. Planning on doing a wine exchange with my siblings for Christmas...and this is our pick!
Well this was my plan b for my birthday because of the storm. Ofcourse i wished it was warmer so i could go to the vineyard. We were a party of 12 and we had a good time. One of our attenders could be a little friendly though. An attitude on my bday. My girls and i loved it so definitely will come back. They should atleast have an open tasting without a limit.
My wife and I stopped up here this past Sunday I wish the weather was nicer and we could have stayed a bit longer but the people were very nice and attentive and their wine is very good cant wait for the weather to break to go back and enjoy the views with a bottle of wine
