The castle is very impressive from a distance. Once in the castle, however, there is not that much to see. On a clear day (it was raining when we were there) the view of the Lake and the island are worth it, but otherwise it was not particularly noteworthy.
Looking up to the stairs to the castle I though "OMG" but the view made me forget the effort. The castle is very well maintained, they still have a printer like in the old times where the art of printing paper was discovered and they can demonstrate it to you and make a print with your name and the seal of the castle. It was one of the few places where there was some information in English. The entrance was EUR 9, but Slovenians do not need to pay what makes the tour cheaper if you came with a Slovenian guide.
The castle is located on top of the hills above the town of Bled. It is relatively small and can be visited for only 10-15 minutes. It's challenging to get to him with steep stairs. Entrance is charged € 9 for adults, children under 7 years do not pay ulaz.U the castle is a small museum, the old printing press and a blacksmith shop and of course a gift shop. There is a restaurant which at that time was not working because of renovations. What is most fascinating is the view from the castle that stretches for miles.
I have to say, the only thing the castle has to offer is the best view in the world. All other things are negative. Even though, if you would like just to drink a cup of coffee in the restaurant you have to pay an entrance fee (8€) to the most annoyed lady in the reception. We had a feeling as if we were not welcome (mind you we are Slovenian). After the expensive coffee we had to run after the waiter, so that we could pay for the coffee. Finally we visited the museum which is nothing special. On the brighter note, this is probably the best view you can get while in Bled.
Beautiful setting looking down upon Lake Bled. Enjoyed the climb and the views. I enjoyed seeing how coins were minted by hand by staff. Loved the gelato served in the castle cafe with amazing lake views!
We had some foreign guests and had free afternoon. We decided to show them one of the diamonds of Slovenia - lake Bled. We went around the lake, they took some nice photos of the island and then we continue to the castle. This was my first visit of the castle. We decided to go to the wine cellar. It is very well organized and they have a monk which tell you short story about the castle, the cellar, Slovenia wine regions,... It was a perfect start. Slovenia has 3 wine regions. I preffered red dry wines which come from Primorska area (Refosk, Teran). After that it was time for degustation. What can I say, I have already tested some wines (Slovenia and others) but this two were really below my expectations. I would recommend to the owner, local and national tourist community and Slovenia wine association to test wines together and change supplier. Tourists deserves to test better ones.
Though this castle is overpriced, you will regret not going inside and getting the truly astounding views of Lake Bled and the surrounding area. The castle is built into the cliff side and really gives you some feelings of vertigo, if you're into that. The exhibits are somewhat interesting and offer a decent history of the area, but the purpose of going is to enjoy the view. Also - if you're physically able, take the walk. It's not technical, long, or difficult.
The trek up to the castle is very steep and not for those out of shape but the view from the top is well worth it. The castle itself is more about selling things in the shops. The museum has copies of documents instead of actual museum quality items.. Definitely not worth the 9 euros admission
We found the castle very interesting and a lovely climb up the steps to get there and the views were worth the climb
We decided to walk up to the castle on the road wich is usually used by cars It's an easy walk. We were with two kids and the climbing seemed scary. The castle itself not so impressiv, but the view is amazing. Some people said the climbing was much more interesting than the castle
