In the winter, the red winter berries along the path to the bluffs are beautiful. The view of the ocean and the bluffs themselves is stunning. It's a spot we like to visit whenever we are on the Island.
We stayed at the top of the steps as it was quite step and the worry was coming back up! The view from the top was fantastic
It is a MUST see on BI. The view from the top is magnificent, and if you can make it onto the beach (very long stairway, almost to the bottom, and then treacherous) it's worth it, except you have to keep in mind that you have to return UP those same stairs. Don't bring a cooler, or chairs, because you need both hands to get up and down the bit after the stairs end. But, it's all worth it. The waves are great, and the beach is the best on the island.
The history is that the Mohegans crossed over and attacked the local Indian tribe, who pushed back, and in the process pushed some of them off of these cliffs to the rocks below. We went down the 164 or so steps (and then back up!) to the beach, which is rough and rock-strewn. There's a rope down there to pull yourself back up. Bring your trekking poles.
No one should have to climb down the last length of this cliff on the hazardous rope the have attached to the missing portion of the stairs. An ambulance showed up while we were there to come to the aid of a woman who was having heart palpitations from climbing back up from the beach. You have the number one attraction on the island.Fix it !
If you make the trip to Block Island then you must go to the Bluffs! The views are outstanding & so is the area around the exquisite SE Lighthouse. It is a must see, and good exercise too.
You have to take the stairway down and back to see these awesome bluffs reaching out to the Atlantic Ocean! Great vista to see the bluffs and scenery around them. Totally a majestic place to be and just take in all it's goodness. When you go to Block Island this is a must see.
Was so special. We had the beach basically to ourselves and I felt like it was out of a movie. We will be back ...this was such an amazing moment in our lives. Hopefully those that live here don't become immune to it...
What a view. And to think they moved this entire structure back 100 yards! Don't miss it. Great food truck on the grounds too!
What a wonderful surprise as we were biking the island! The view was spectacular! The walk down & up was challenging for me, and we didn't have sneakers on to step off the last landing to continue onto the beach. I wish they continued the steps further as it was steep & rocky and we had flip flops on. I could see that many people built stacking rocks on the beach which was a beautiful sight. I have never before seen a display like that. VERY NAMASTE-LIKE!
