This is a great place to visit. The Sturgeon Viewing Pond is great and the Center is very interesting and it's very pretty there. This is free to the public and worth your time to go and see and just wander through the Center.
Herman the Sturgeon is over 12' long and ancient! He is not the original sturgeon here, there have been several that have either reached the end of life or been "stolen" and replaced.
If you are going to the Bonneville Dam, it is definitely worth stopping by for this. I enjoyed seeing the sturgeon and learning about them.
These are interesting looking fish and they have a viewing area to see them above and below the water. You can feed the large trout for .25
Having fished for sturgeon my whole life I must admit I was impressed with the massive size of some of these sturgeons. Seldom do you ever get to see a live one and there were so many in the shallow ponds that you could easily see and watch. Quite the treat for any fisherman and the curious public as well.
We enjoyed visiting Bonneville Fish Hatchery; the sturgeon viewing ponds and interpretive center are part of the hatchery. I enjoyed seeing the sturgeon in the outdoor ponds. There is also a small white building where one can see the sturgeon swimming in the water. Sturgeon are huge, especially compared to the trout in the other part of the fish hatchery.Visiting is free.
This is a must see for anyone going through this area! The Sturgeon in a giant! Can't believe there was one larger this this guy before him. Well worth it!, the Walk around the area is very peaceful as well and the viewing area.
This was so good especially if you like fishing, the staff are helpful and being able to watch the salmon run is fascinating .worth the trip and free to boot
This is an amazing place with a 450 lb sturgeon (70 year old) swimming around with other smaller sturgeon and some rainbow trout. You can feed fish here and it is a pretty neat place.
There are so many beautiful places to stop along the Columbia river gorge. This is a little different than the other viewpoints and waterfalls. The facility is very well kept and the fish viewing tanks are really neat. I had no idea that fish get so big!
