Nice tour!! I had a really bad experience in Mystic Cave in harrison arkansas the manager well he was very rude and the bathrooms were nasty and you had to climb over 100 feet out of the cave!!! And kids were a no no!!!! Crystal Onyx was nice and the staff was nice and a good overall experience. If you go to arkansas do not go to the one in Harrison Ar go to Rogers or Eureka Springs!! They were awesome as so was Crystal onyx in cave city!!!
I really enjoyed this tour. We weren't able to get the times we wanted at Mammoth but found this cave instead. We're glad that we ended up not going to Mammoth.. too many stairs & too high (scared of heights lol) from what we heard. Onyx was just right. We got to see the caves and learn a lot. Plus it was only my 3 kids & I along with another couple. It felt like a private tour. It was also priced very nice.
The cave was quite small and did not have a lot of different types of rock. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, not just about this cave, but also about caves in general and explained the differences I how caves are formed.
We loved going to this attraction, the workers were very nice and polite, the cave is just beautiful. Can't wait to go back.
I'm writing this review because it seems that three different caves are being incorrectly reviewed under this category of "Crystal Onyx Cave". #1 The actual "Crystal Onyx Cave" is closed. It is located on Prewitts Knob Road and has been purchased by new owners recently who say that the cave has been neglected and needs major updating before they can safely reopen for tours. This may take 3-5 years. #2 Any reviews here that mention kangaroos and the "Kentucky Down Under" zoo are referring to an attraction in HORSE City, not Cave city, Kentucky. The Cave associated with this attraction in Horse City is actually called "Mammoth Onyx Cave"#3 There is an cave on Huckleberry Knob road in Cave City called "Onyx Cave" which sits just by the entrance of the Guntown Mountain. This is right on the main drag between the highway and Mammoth Cave National Park. I hope this helps you sort out which cave is which!
It was pouring rain the last day of our vacation and we didn't know what to do. We stumbled across the Onyx cave and for the money it was great. It was about minutes with about 6 people and a very knowledgeable tour guide. She loves the cave and you got to see things really close up! Kids loved it and so did us as parents!
It was a small cave, but a fantastic tour! This is a great cave to start with because you can see the difference between a "healthy" cave and an "unhealthy" cave. The tour guide had answers for every questions. The gift shop is great and the prices were very reasonable! The price of the tour was also a bonus.
Across from dinosaur world. Best cave tour EverThe other one is closed down. Missie was passionate and very good at what she does
The tour guide was extremely knowledgable! It was a great short tour. Interesting history and how it was discovered.
Driving from Nashville to Chicago, we wanted to have a few local roadside experiences to justify driving vs flying. Mammoth Caves are highly promoted, but we didn't have time. Trip advisor pointed out Crystal Onyx Cave and it was all that reviewers said. Dramatic, colorful formations that you maneuver through with a guide that exuded passion and deep knowledge of his geological treasure. My husband and son loved it (and we have seen some amazing caves in our travels abroad). Only thing to note, the map link in Trip Advisor takes you to Cave City (9 minutes away), not the cave itself. The local gas station people were clueless this treasure existed less than 10 minutes away (they told us it had collapsed)! So we ended up doing a web search to find the actual address. Thankfully, it is alive and well!
