My daughter and I made a detour to visit this attraction while in Cedarburg for a long "girls" weekend. We walked into the museum and found that it was largely a small collection of clothes/cloths that were handwoven accompanied by a small gift shoppe with books on fibres/weaving etc. but truthfully, there was just not enough to warrant paying a fee to get into (I felt) though of course I understand that any not for profit needs to do ongoing fundraising. Would have liked to see the museum have a more robust display of quilts and other handwoven fabrics etc.
Wow, Thank you for offering such a wonderful mix of vintage and contemporary design options! The blend of traditional and new ways of doing things is good for adults and kids who want to learn.
Beautiful building and grounds even when covered with snow. Wool show runs another week and was definitely worth the visit. Historic quilts as well as more recent items. Great gift shop included books, ornaments, bags and all sorts of hand crafted things. Admission seemed a bit pricey at $8.
Really enjoyed the exhibit and had a tour by a very knowledgeable guide, who was also the owner of many of the items in the collection. Not just quilts but other fabric arts also. Plus a gift shop. They also have classes.
There is something here for everyone even if you are not into quilts. The quilts displayed both antique and 'modern' were eye popping and well displayed. The gift shop had an amazing array of hand crafted items for sale. The curator led us on a tour of the German farm and explained the plans for renovating and using the old buildings for educational purposes. The museum itself is housed in the original German-style barn which has been beautifully restored and enlarged. It's just a short drive from the quaint downtown area of Cedarburg shops and restaurants.
This is an old barn made into an exquisite display venue for quilts of all types. The current show was focused on items made from wool. There was a mitten knitting class taking place on a lower level as well while we were there.
Take a minute to step into a cool, beautifully lit barn with so many attractive displays. Wall hangings, quilted pieces, ever changing collections on show. As a plus, the Museum gift shop is a treasure trove of those wonderful, hand-made items you have your eye out for. It is so accessible, an interlude of quiet calm in an otherwise hectic world. Give it a try!
Such a nice, creative place to find in a small town. I appreciated the local art and artists' work. Worth stopping by
My sister makes quilts, so on a day-trip to Cedarburg I insisted we find this museum, even though it was late afternoon and we were weary. We were greeted by a very friendly woman who offered to give us a quick history of the place and answered our questions. We opted not to do the museum itself, but enjoyed the displays outside its entrance and the gift shop. We also did a quick walk around the grounds. The work done to turn a barn into a museum is impressive. We plan to return some day for a "real" visit.
Our neighbor builds quilts. We like to find things she might be able to use to encourage her quilt pursuits. There was an international quilt display going on while we were there. I took pictures (after asking if it was okay), and sent them to my neighbor via my smart phone.I found it quite interesting, and would love to go back for future displays.
