A small bunch of adventure travel professionals got together to do an accent. It was a great clear sunny day so it could not be anything else but a great day. A easy 4000 meter peak for anyone with reasonable fitness to get some stunning views
Its located in the area near the Matterhorn, its look simply majestic especially with no cloud cover. It a tall mountain of which many climbers have scaled her majestic pieaks
Picturesque with large cornice. Only attempt if experience with snow and ice climbing and equipment and have a guide
While not as enigmatic and imposing as the Matterhorn, Breithorn is still visually stunning and worth seeing. We were able to see this mountain even when the MAtterhorn was covered in clouds.
Great skiing with fantastic views. The slopes are extremely well looked after. The pistes are always in tip top condition.
We climbed the Breithorn on our last visit in 2007 when the weather was excellent, this time we encountered very different conditions, mist and snow, avalanche warnings and lightly covered crevasses on the approach over the glacier . this time we did not summit. We could not see the ridge to the right hand side of the summit because of the mist. The ridge is the way we went to the top last time .The vertical face is on the left of the summit, not a place to be in bad visibility. Theres always next time!
Full report under Breithorn hotel.Definitely recommended in Champoluc for skiers but 10 minute walk to the nearest lift on a main road and issues with locker keys if not a couple.
The Breithorn is one of the few mountains higher than 4000m suitable for non-mountaineers. It is easy "climb" that means no climbing at all: you can walk up to the top. Your mountain guide provides all the equipment like grampons, harness, etc.Klein Matterhorn is the starting point of the hillwalk. First you cross a glacier the you walk uphill. At the top the view is marvellous! It takes about two hours to the top including breaks. The way back obviously is a bit faster.
Didn't climb this mountain but did take cablecar to Klein Matterhorn and the view of the Breithorn was fantastic. Climbers started their assent from the Glacier Paradise and it was absolutely messmirising to watch them climb. They soon looked like little 'ants' making their way across the bright white of the peak. You could also see where avalanches had occured. It must be exhillarating to climb it but I was happy just taking photos but well worth seeing from the Glacier Paradise.
This was the easiest snow climb we ever did. Yet, you need to know basic mountaineering skills, and be comfortable walking in crampons (depending on snow conditions you may not need them). You better be well acclimatized when you climb Breithorn, it is quite high. Easy access from Kline Matterhorn (gondola station). Round trip to the summit is about 2-3 hours.
