We recently wondered in The Sugar Chest Antique Mall after eating lunch nearby. My wife and I love looking for pieces of history and this store definitely has a lot of it. The store is a warehouse type building and they're currently rearranging some of their displays. You really need to take your time and walk up and down every isle because while some items were clustered together others such as the military pieces were spread out in three or four different areas. Some of the merchandise were replicas, or newer, but the majority are antique. The replicas were labeled as such and the newer items are easy enough to spot. We bought an old cast iron cobbler shoe stand to be a door stop and a vintage Pepsi advertising poster from the 50's. The staff were friendly and helpful. Looking forward to our next visit.
Frankly I'm not an "antiquer" but I was looking for a gift for a friend who is. I just started to browse and I found the most amazing gifts for a fair price and had fun doing it. Staff was great. They have a great jeweler on site who does repairs, sizing, etc, I've used him three times and was pleased.
So, my fiancee and myself found what they the vendor claimed was a 19th century mantle clock, made in Germany. The clock looked good and had a price tag of usd 499. We liked it and asked if that was a firm price. The sales woman comes and acts like we are not supposed to make a deal with the vendor, but that she does the talking. So, she compliments the vendor and how nice the chimes sound and that how beautiful the clock is, etc, etc. Then she proceeds to ask him, what kind of a deal,he would make for us. He says quote " I can take a 100 dollars off", I look up and see a sign that the shop was offering 20% off anyways. So he was not doing us any favours. Anyway, my fiancee and I said we would think about it and get back to him and to the sales woman, who was pushy, I mean really pushing for us to buy it After walking around and talking, we asked the sales woman, if the vendor could do something better. She stated she would talk him into giving us 30% off, that would bring the price down to 350.00. We agreed. The saleswoman, just took the clock and started walking towards the counter to write the ticket, so that we could pay for it, not waiting for us to ask any questions. Throughout this ordeal both of them, when asked, if the clock was working stated oh yes, the vendor stated he just had it serviced. So, the annoying and pushy saleswoman is trying to get us to buy the clock, like without even checking it out. I insert the wiinding key in one of the winding holes on the face of the clock and. what do you know? The windup hole does not work. AH! I am not buying the clockThey are deceitful and trying to sell me a LEMON. The saleswoman was very annoyed that I wanted to check the clock with the key. This is not a pleasant experience but a learning experience and we will definitely not shop there again.
I love this place because you can really find some mid century treasures. I am an avid collector and appreciate this place! Also great for one of a kind gifts. My teen daughter gets inspiration for her art work here.

When in town I usually stop by this antique mall. It's been here for many years. Lots of stuff to look at. Don't expect any bargains or great surprises. Discouraging to wade through all the junk but there are a few nice things to look at. I always go back.If you're used to country primitives, higher-end or where things this is probably not for you. If you collect little things, gilded things or fake stuff you can't go wrong here
I wish I could give then LESS than one star. They sold me a vase for $3000 that was marked and sold as a Tiffany vase BUT appraised as a FAKE, FRAUDULENT, COUNTERFEIT vase. They refuse to return or exchange. They seem like nice folks but BUYER BEWARE THEY WILL DUPE YOU and tell you TOUGH LUCK.
Had a great time at this mall. Huge selection. Very high quality. I found most of my holiday gifts already. The jewelry selection is magnificent. The whole staff was busy but friendly. Two of them even got me further information on pieces I was buying. Thumbs up all around.
This antique mall is wonderful! I have shopped malls across the east coast. I have never seen a prettier and cleaner mall. My wife and I spent one full day of our week long vacation in the store!! Great place - we will return.
A friend and I visited the sugar chest on a whim. Ended up spending several hours going through just about every inch of the place. Each of us found treasures. Some greatly discounted. I cannot wait to take several other friends there so they too can possibly discover a special find.
