Historic with quite a story. Go in the Spring or Fall for best views. Something for the whole family.
Take an entire day or just a few minutes and you'll see something new and exciting on the Riverpark. Dogs were hiking while we walked; it was a convivial group of pets and people enjoying a glorious morning along the river and across the bridge. Runners, walkers, joggers, plodders -- we encountered every sort of mover and shaker in this excellent venue for everyone.
It was a Holiday morning and not everything was open while we were there. But still lots of artsy things to see and take in.
would have liked to walked a bit of this with our dogs - but alas - no pets.......review is done for me.....looks nice!
Linking downtown on the riverfront with Chickamauga Dam, this riverwalk is a good place for a short - or longer - stroll along the Tennessee River. If you walk or run, look out for bicycles! it can get crowded on nice spring and summer days, and is used for recreation all year long.
Wear sandals and bring some dry clothes for the kids! Wonderful experience!! A must see in Chattanooga! Water steps are beautiful so don't forget your camera!
I lived in Chattanooga for 3 years and had numerous opportunities to visit the Riverpark. It's not something I had in any other city I've been in and is really unique to the area. The Riverpark stretches a little over 10 miles from the TVA Chickamauga Dam into downtown Chattanooga. There are current plans to expand the riverwalk to around double it's current length also! It's the perfect place to walk, run, bike, paddle-board, boat, fish, etc. There's a continuous concrete path that's lit and winds through beautiful scenery along the river. Several bathroom facilities along the way as well. There's a boat ramp where you can drop off a boat or jetski and get right into the Tennessee River and there are always people fishing along the riverbank. Bring the kids along too! There is a great playground area with a large parking lot and bathrooms. Park rangers are always patrolling the park and there are 7 emergency call stations hooked up directly to the 9-1-1 center. I worked there for 3 years and we got the occasional call, mostly accidental or prank activations though - but park rangers were always quick to respond. If you hate exercising, go here and it will make it so much easier!
River, riverboats, fountain, a cosmopolitan downtown area, great food, accessibility to IMAX, museums, a glass bridge, and the Aquarium...not to mention a concert pavillion...what more do you want?
Highly recommend this area. ..spring and summer are always the best time! Music and open venue is amazing! Relaxing and serene! !!
This is such a vibrant and invigorating walking and artistic place to visit, even in January. I can only imagine what it can bring to the soul in the vibrancy of spring and summer. Walking and jogging enthusiasts. will find nirvana. With the unique sculptures and views of the river, it is most peaceful.
