Excellent place to visit. More than just tire manufacturers, the Michelin innovation history has lessons of courage to bring to the public knowledge.
This is the museum of the Michelin tyre factory. It shows the story of the tyre in an interesting way. You can learn a lot of things about how tyres are made and used. If you happen to be in Clermont ferrand, it worths a visit. However, do not travel there on purpose.
How much can you do with tires? Not to much that would hold my attention for too long. However, having said that, I will say that the experience is well put together. It was just too long given the subject.
This museum is top-notch! OK, Michelin - you think tires, maps, etc. but the museum is much more than just an advertisement for the company. It's a history of the family, the evolution of transportation, tires, modern media, marketing and lots more. Lots of videos, signage was in both French and English, along with many interactive exhibits. The museum has the usual audio listening aids for additional information if you want even more information. If you are anywhere near Clermont Ferrand, you should definitely put this on your list of places to visit.
This museum is a must see if you are in Clermont Ferrand - you can take as much or as little time as you want to work your way around the exhibit. Look out for the night time openings, they don't happen often we just happened to be there when they had one. Interesting for all, stuff to do for the kids, bright and open and full of interesting information.
Went here on a saturday in November with my dad. He is interested in cars, so the museum was very suitable. Came in and the girl immediately spoke english with us. I think the museum overall is nice and interactive for the kids as well. Really nice to see the development of the tire but also the marketing side of this brand. At the end you can take a picture with the michelin man and play a game against eachother! Great way to spend a cold afternoon and also learn something about the brand which is known all over the world.
This was an interesting tour around the history of Michelin and transport. and itis constantly being refreshed
Very interesting not just about tyres. If you have an hour or two before you go to the rugby ground for a game its worth it. Very easy to get to and walk around, with English descriptions. The history of the company is very interesting and other companies can learn from the ethos of the company.
Clermont Ferrand is not really geared to tourism, but this museum is one of the better things to do in town. Needs about 1.5 or 2 hours to go round properly, and is quite interesting about the development of the tire industry and Michelin's other commercial activities over the years. At some points focusses more on information, but there's an overriding sense throughout the museum of it being a corporate public relations exercise - the company is always portrayed as doing its best to solve the problems of humanity with very little objective discussion.By all means go, but be prepared for quite a bit of corporate advertising.
We enjoyed our afternoon at L'Aventure Michelin learning about the history of Michelin and the development of tyres from bicycles to radials. Allow plenty of time as there is a lot to see.
