As a first time visitor to the Yarra Vally I was having difficulty finding a good rose wine. Information from the helpful Yarra Yering staff gave me three options including Dominique Portet. French and rose usually go well together so Portet cellar door was my last stop for the day. Excellent choice, not busy and a professional family operation. The staff really knew their wines and I'm still enjoying the excellent rose from the box I purchased.
This winery has become one of our favourites and that is why we decided to hold a small family get together yesterday for 14 people. Our table was set up in the back room surrounded by the wine barrels, so we were away from the mainstream and it was just perfect! Fantastic setting and did not have to worry about making too much noise! We had interstate visitors so it was a wonderful experience for them. We were able to play pétanque with our grandson as well. The menu has changed which is a bit of a shame as we used to love the plat du jour. and the the goat's cheese tart! Although the pulled pork brioche buns were quite tasty, we were a little underwhelmed with them. I know they are only light lunches so if you are looking for something a little more filling, I would suggest you get some French fries as well to share or perhaps the charcuterie platter to share which is really lovely. A big thank you to all the staff who as usual were so helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were even able to pay separately- thank you, Valentine! The Dominique Portet Sauvignon Blanc is a very nice savvy and very refreshing on a warm day!
lunch in the forecourt is highly recommended. Trout Salad, Pulled pork rolls and beef baguette and the famous French fries all complimented by a bottle of cold Rose. Very relaxing setting. Highly recommended
Friendly staff, engaging servers, pretty tasting area, food available for purchase. Lovely experience.
Great food and great wine (especially the sparkling rose!) in a lovely venue! You can even play petanque! Try their buns, the brioche is amazing!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff with great wines.Great scenery and atmosphere for a pleasant do out with the family.
A good array of stalls, Cunliffe Waters always a delight with a great selection of goods. Wine of an excellent quality and friendly faces.
We tasted a number of wines here, the Rose and Shiraz were superb, a lovely atmosphere with a violin player in the background, and some tempting gift to buy. Will definitely visit again and are now a fan of your Rose
Thank you for your feedback on our new summer menu.We are saddened to hear that you were not satisfied with your salad as this is one of our most popular dishes. We will speak with our chef and ensure this does not occur again.
Dominique Portet makes beautiful wines and it seems that he decided to add a cafe because everyone else has an eatery in their winery. That said, the cafe is done well and the cafe offers good but simple French-style food. The wine is also good and overall, it is good value for money.Very much better value than Bella Vedere Cucina, which is next door.Worth a visit.
