Thank you! Our half-day trip to the sea/ice caves outside of Cornucopia is by far our most popular trip. Thanks for coming.Sincerely,Greg
Thanks Mary. You did great! Greg
Thank you for writing your review of the trip that you were NOT satisfied with and not writing nor recommending us for the "5 star" trip that you did take with us.I usually can find good take-home points from reviews, even when I don't agree with the events as described, however in the case of this review I cannot find anything constructive for several reasons, many of which most readers can probably figure out on their own, but I will make a few clarifying points in case you are not familiar with kayaking or outdoor adventure in general.1.) We don't control the wind2.) Lying about the events as they occurred to make yourself seem like the victim and in the right is unethical in my opinion. Prior to this posting I sent a feedback form to the reviewer and in her feedback she said many of the same things, including wanting a refund because the guide wouldn't let her do a dangerous thing, which is to paddle into caves when it's wavy. The reviewer was very lucky to get inside the caves during her first trip with us, as it often too wavy to paddle safely inside safely. This is true for any of our cave trips. The reviewer also said that because of what happened she will no longer kayak out to Sand Island with us, but rather take a motor boat. Please realize the difference: Kayaking to Sand Island is an adventure, Motoring out to Sand Island is transportation. BIG difference. In kayaking you need skills and judgment, to sit on a motor boat as a passenger you do not. Look up "adventure" in the dictionary and you will see that it says (paraphrases) "where the outcome is unknown." Our most important "goal" as you incorrectly say of this trip, is to safety return after an awesome day on the water. After that I honestly don't care if you got to paddle inside the caves if it means bringing you and our gear back in one piece. We are the only outfitter that I know of that does the "Sand Island in a Day" trip, because it takes the right day, and the right guide to be able to lead this trip, a trip that we would not just send any guide out to do. Kia has been guiding safely with us for 2 seasons now and is fully aware of what the lake can do (see her comments below)Sorry for the long reply, but prior to this review being posted I asked the guide for that day to give her account for what happened. I'll end my comments with her reply:"We made lots of group decisions that day and going to the lighthouse was one of them. Heidi was totally down with it and even provided us with bug spray for the hike. I actually think she may have suggested the hike, but maybe she didn't. All the others in my group had a blast, said I was a fun and safe guide, and said they would recommend Lost Creek Adventures to their friends (I even got a hug from Douglas!).The water was never calm that day, but the waves were smaller towards the beginning of the trip, still too big to go into the tiny sand island caves though. (The reviewer) got lucky on her first trip because she got a super glassy day and must have assumed all days are like that. It's not the guides fault if it's wavy and windy. We decided to stop in east bay so that (The reviewer) could see her dad's old cabin before doing the caves. (Clarification: We usually hit the caves first, and go to a bay further on to eat lunch. It was (The reviewer's) idea to stop in a bay that is before the caves. The entire group stopped prior to the caves because of her suggestion.)I checked the weather radio while we were on the island to make sure getting back would be okay. I also checked the radar on my phone. I check the weather constantly just like her grandpa. I made sure we left early enough so that the waves wouldn't be too bad for the way back because I heard they were supposed to grow during the evening hours. Basically I can't help the weather and if it's windy and wavy then it's windy and wavy. She should be happy that she was able to do all sorts of awesome stuff like see the waves bashing against the caves and get the amazing view and tour of the lighthouse! I know myself and the rest of the group had fun :)
Just went on the 4 pm guided tour on Sun with 2 other friends. None of us have experience with sea kayaking...x3 ladies in their 50's. No problems with the whole reservation process and we arrived late but they were still gracious enough to include us. There was a grp of 12 and x2 guides (Nick and Emily). I felt we were given adequate training on how to put on everything we needed and how to paddle/navigate the tandem kayak. Our guides were not overly ambitious but they provided all the info one would need to go on a safe and enjoyable paddle. Our weather started out awesome at Meyers Beach-hi 70's and calm waters. We were very lucky to actually paddle into some of the caves and through openings. We had to turn back earlier than the guides expected due to weather conditions, but it is quite a lengthy-but most awesome paddle-just to tour the sea caves for a novice so we were quite fine with our paddle length of the trip. I greatly appreciate having the opportunity to try sea kayaking on Lake Superior with guides who obviously know what they are doing and who take care of you vey well. I have recommended this tour company to all of my friends who love the outdoors but are unsure about the whole independent kayaking gig. great adventure.
This is the kind of review that makes what we do worthwhile and look forward to next year. I'm so happy that the trip went so well for you and hope that now that you have a safety course under your belt you'll come back to Lake Superior again. I'll pass along your feedback to Jake and Alissa. Thanks again,Greg
This group accomadated a last minute reservation when the bayfield area group fell through due to lack of guides. Were very pleased with the service, guides well trained and made the trip fun and safe, both novice and skilled kayakers in our 12 person group enjoyed the time in the sea caves. Nicely invited us back and sent a follow up thank you.
Thank you for your review. Our classes run from beginner paddlers, to rolling a kayak on up through instructor certifications in coastal kayaking. If any readers out there are interested in improving your skills I'd be happy to talk to you about next steps.Sincerely,Greg
Thank you for your review. Those calm days should be cherished :-)Paddles up!Greg
Thank you. Readers please note that if you have children under 12 they would be what is known in the kayaking/canoeing world as a "duffer" or somone who sits in the middle of the boat as a non-paddler.Best,Greg
