My husband and I were really excited to see so many awesome bike trails when we moved to Cumberland. We love to get out and do things in the beautiful outdoors and this trail is a great way to do so. There are spots along the trail where I couldn't help but stop and take a photo! Great great great!
If you enjoy Rail Trails, then you have to try the Blackstone River Bikeway. Much of the trail is scenic and calming. You'll see bikers, walkers, joggers, roller blades, etc. There many out walking their dogs but the dogs are always leashed and well behaved. We live right at mile marker 10.5; so, we use the trail several times per week. We often see more wildlife here than when we visit National Parks. On a typical day, we see ducks, geese, swans, hawks and other birds. We occasionally see deer, rabbits, turtles, and other animals. In their season, there are sounds of frogs in many locations. There are no facilities (food, bathrooms) directly on the trail but it passes through shopping areas where these services can be found. There is also a National Parks building at Mile Marker 11.
My husband and I spent a Saturday afternoon riding our bikes on the bikeway that parallels the Blackstone River in Rhode Island. The bike path is one of the best we've ever ridden on. It is wide and smooth. Much of it was in the shade - a welcome happenstance when the air temperature was around 85 degrees. For much of the way, the railroad tracks are on one side and he river on the other. We passed a couple of dams that created nice auditory effects as the water spilled over. There were not many people on the bike path, so it felt a lot like communing with unspoiled nature.
Great scenery! You can park at the rest area on 295, where there are rest rooms. You can head north or south on the bike path. Either direction is worth the ride!
This is a top notch bike path that I've travelled on through Valley Falls (south Cumberland) all the way to northern Lincoln, maybe 8 miles total. It extends further in both directions. Much of the path runs along the Blackstone River. Sometimes you can see the river from the path, sometimes not. The path actually goes across the river a few times. Nice scenic views. Well maintained. Paved, with a few dirt side paths. Wide enough for 2 lanes of runners/bikers. Several convenient entry points. There are also several letterboxes hidden along the path.
This bike path is 10 miles long and runs from Woonsocket, RI to Central Falls, RI. There are multiple entry points with parking. The largest parking area is at the beautiful visitor information/rest stop on interstate 295 in Lincoln, RI. This bike path is shared by runners, strollers, rollerbladers, and bicyclist. The crowds are heaviest on weekends, but it varies depending on the time of the day. I ride the whole length of the path every weekend. It's a nice way to get a workout and enjoy nature. I've seen ducks, herons, turtles, and fish. The path is mostly flat.
Pros: great paved biking/walking trail, large visitor center, scenic treed walk/ride, easy access from highwayCons: highway traffic noise, pretty but its just trees for most of the walk - no real "wow" factorWe arrived to MA early waiting to head to Wrentham Outlet mall. Since we arrived before opening, we needed to find something else to do. Since we spend the last 12 hours on the road, a hike to stretch the legs. We ended up here, and it turned out to be really nice. There is lots of free parking when you arrive. And being right off the highway makes this park super convenient, but a bit noisy at first. The visitor center is large with nice washrooms. The trail itself is wonderful. Its a wide, paved trail, mainly used for biking, but we walked a portion of it. The trail is mostly treed but very well maintained. It follows the water to a small dam where you can walk now and sit waterside. Its a great trail that I wish we could have explored more!!
If you love biking this is a very beautiful and serene bike path that is the best kept secret in the area. There are some historical sites and a museums to visit along the way and it is not as overcrowded as the East Bay bikeway. Parallel to this bikeway is the Blackstone river and you can always get some picture perfect moments as you ride along. They also have room for walkers. I will be riding or walking here a lot more!
As a family, we have gone down to the bike path with our bicycles, and really enjoyed the waterway. We have taken many pictures of the wildlife, and enjoy the serenity. Great place to run as well.
Nice senic route. Not very difficult. Can be crowded on weekends. Areas for picnicing available. Some historical areas have signs explaining their significance.
