Great set of trails for light hiking and general exercise with a nice view at the top. Nice restroom that sometimes comes in handy.
This is a nice, easy hike- great for families with kids. Great spots for a picnic and a playground at the entrance. Only downfall is that the park doesn't allow dogs. We assumed that we could hike with our dog (what park wouldn't allow dogs, after all) but got there to find that they aren't allowed. So, we had to turn around, drop the dog off back at home and return to the park about an hour later. Nice enough but there are much better parks in GA than Sawnee.
Beautiful place for a hike. We took four of our grandchildren along and they loved it. We got quite often and never get tired of it.
Lived in Cumming for years before I even found out about this place. We hiked to the top and could not believe the beautiful view. Trails are clearly marked and definitely doable for all ages.
This is a very nice park, that has two sides to it. One side has the visitor center, and the other side has some picnic tables and playgrounds. Might want to get a map at the visitor center. To get up to the top of the mountain, the longer route is from the visitor center side. Well worth the effort to go up to the top. There you will discover the Indian Seats. Be sure to go all the way up, and check out the view from the deck. Perfect place to have a picnic either down below or up top. Just a couple miles away is a great place to grab a picnic lunch at Ferguson's Meat Market at the intersection of Hwy 9 and Hwy 369. Ferguson's has a large hot foods section in the rear of the store (take out only), but you can get a boxed lunch and take it over to the park and enjoy a nice outdoor lunch or dinner. There is a man made waterfall and running water feature at the visitor center, and I have sat there in a rocking chair and had my lunch too.
Nice park for a leisurely walk/hike in a convenient to Cumming location. Can get a little crowded up top although plenty of areas to get away.
Beautiful facilities. Plenty of parking. The staff is extremely helpful. Trails are marked clearly. Lots of educational classes offered.
You can choose various length of trail to hike. Great hike to sweat off the day and the view is good frim the top. If you are there when its windy than its more awesome...
If you want a great little hike for a beautiful view, then go to Sawnee Mountain Preserve. On the other side of the mountain is the visitor center. When I was a scout troop leader, the girls and I hiked up to the top of Sawnee Mountain several times. It is about a three mile hike round trip. At the top, there are somewhat carved stones called "Cherokee Seats". These seats were where Native Americans in this region used to observe travelers below. The place is filled with legends and history. The nice part is the close proximity to the down town part of Cumming, Georgia. It is just a couple miles off the beaten path. They also have picnic tables and a small play ground near the parking lot and restrooms.
Super time and just a short hike to killer views. The north side of the mountain is very picturesque...you can see hundreds of miles.
