I lived in Dayton for five years before I took the opportunity to visit. My daughter first told me about it as she visited during a class trip. I was pleasantly surprised with all the very nice exhibits. A nice oasis in the city.
This is a great lunch spot with a lot of history. They have their own beer now which makes lunch even better. The Rueben was first rate. The beer makers will take the time to talk with you, which adds to the wonderful experience.
Lots of great historical exhibits. Easy walking. Free parking. Reasonable entry fee. Good Food on site which is also accessible without paying entry fee. Worth at least a half day trip.
Plenty of space to walk. Right on the river. The new brewery would be a good way to finish the visit. Close to the University of Dayton and downtown.
I had such a fantastic time! I was in Dayton for business and wanted to squeeze in some history. This park had so much history presented in an extremely unique manner! Only $8 to get in and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I only had an hour to spend there because they close at five but the staff didn't make me feel like I was imposing and actually seemed happy I visited. Shout out to the woman working in the cash register exhibit, the gentleman at the wright aviation center, and the woman in the trolley exhibit. Truly a fantastic and special place to visit! If you only have time for one attraction in Dayton this is the place to go!
Carillon Historical Park is a great way to spend the afternoon. I went in the fall, and the trees were absolutely beautiful in the fall colors, and I'm sure it will be just as lovely in the spring. The park has really expanded and I enjoyed seeing the 'new' exhibits and the carousel. Dayton is a wonderful city that has been hit hard in recent years and Carillon Park demonstrates the greatness of the city in the past and what it can be in the future.
This beautiful setting offers visitors glimpses into the lives of some of the leading contributors to Dayton history, Deeds, Kettering and Wright. The exhibit buildings are located in a tree covered park that includes a picnic area, a stream and a mill with plenty of room for children to run and play. There is a cafeteria as well as a brew pub which serves delicious lunches. The Carrollton music heard in this tranquil setting is a uplifting to the soul. Recommended for a slower paced day in a multi-day visit to the Dayton area.
We took our grandchildren to Carillon Park last summer. We all loved it. The employees spent time explaining the history of Carillon Park and answering all our grandchildren's questions. We took a picnic lunch and sat near the bells. We had so much fun. The following week when we asked our grandchildren what they wanted to do for the day all 3 said "Let's go to Carillon Park." Carillon Park is one of our favorite places to go in Dayton.
A fantastic museum focused on the early 20th Century industrial history of the Dayton area. To many people, the Wright Brothers are the extent of their knowledge of Dayton history. This museum consisting of numerous buildings relocated from their original location to a park like setting along the Great Miami River has a great area devoted to the career of the Wright Brothers but also highlights the importance of Dayton to other industries such as automobiles and computers. Don’t miss the special events hosted by the park every year such as the Dayton Concours d’Elegance car show in September and Germanfest picnic in August.
This is a great place if you are a history buff or just want to feel the nostalgia of days gone by. Interesting for all ages. Even children will enjoy the exhibits (there is a carousel in the main building for little ones to ride on). Dayton is very rich in invention and innovation. You will have the chance to learn about many types of industries started in Dayton including flight, invention of cash registers and even soda tabs. They have many buildings with different displays of local inventors homes to schoolhouses and exhibits of the famous 1913 flood in Dayton. You could really spend all day here if you chose to. For the adults, there is the newly opened (2014) Carillon Brewing Company on the property with an outdoor patio. Much to see and do!
