There is very little here to see. There is a hospital on the grounds. And a couple of old buildings. We were hoping to see more of this piece of history.
Fort Dodge is small with only afew orginal buildings left and those had to be pointed out to us. We spent all of 15 minutes there.
My wife and I took 3 of our grand sons there one afternoon. They enjoyed having their picture taken on all the cannons and the anchor. we drove around and there were many veterans sitting on their porches. We waved and they waved back.
Well maintained and has an extended life for use as homes forveterans. What better way for an old fort to live out its life.
Fantastic for history buffs. The cemetary is a very peaceful place for ex-servicemen. One of out friends interred ther.
Take a few minutes to drive through and see the fort. Really cute old buildings and neat history! Loved the history of the fort and seeing the buildings and exhibits.
We road the shuttle and drove through the fort. The driver pointed things out and told us interesting facts about the buildings. I dont think I woukd have enjoyed it ss much on our own.
Worth a quick drive through to see all the old buildings and the veterans homes and learn the importance of the Sante Fe Trail.
Only one restored building. Interesting curator. Was expecting a little more considering its importance to the Santa Fe trail. Watch the parking lot if you have an RV!
My wife and I enjoyed the afternoon at Fort Dodge. Very interesting history of the Fort and how it is still being used to house veterans. It seems like the state has found a very effective manner to save the Fort and help the vets.
