Of all the lottle bays n beaches theres something about castara that just feels serene and perfect. High mountains around. Lush hills. Serene waters. Quaint fishing village at its foot. Deff my fav spot in all of tobago
Castara bay really did have the WOW factor. A fantastic beach with great snorkelling and swimming. I really enjoyed my holiday there and hope to return again.
Beautiful beach with breathtaking views. Sweet place to sunbathe and/or take a dip. Quiet and peaceful location.
The beach was beautiful and the fresh fish from local fishermen was superbly filleted! The ambience of the village was wonderful, relaxed and the weather was wonderful! There were numerous hummingbirds and bats to watch and the sea was warm and full of coral and colourful fish!
No one seemed in the slightest bit interested in seeing or making some money out if tourist - went to the one restsursnt at 3pm and asked if they would do tea/ coffee / drinks etc to which the reply was the usual tut - meaning ' not interested' such a Shane as it was a lovely place to visit
We visited this location during a 1/2 day snorkeling trip. We found it quite beautiful and relaxing. We enjoyed some drinks at a local bar over looking the water. Beautiful.
great place to visit, lovely views on approching Castara Bay nice beach, food/bar, parking a bit haphazd,
We didn't get to snorkel as the water was too choppy the day we went, but we did end up at this restaurant on Wednesday night (called Boatside I think), that had the most incredible African drumming going on. Its a regular Wednesday night thing from my understanding. Not usually my thing, but was too good to not enjoy completely.
Spent 2 nights in little bay (more private of the beaches, and where you can walk right into the water and snorkel), followed by 4 nights on the main beach (much better for going for a swim, hanging out, etc.). You can also enter the water here and swim over to the smaller bay for easy access to the snorkeling/reef.The town itself is...simple. Just a few places to eat, a couple of small markets...it's not a tourist destination, although there are quite a few tourists around. While you can buy staples (vegetables, bread, etc.), good luck trying to find sunscreen.Never felt unsafe in this town, but probably wouldn't venture out alone late at night. Also, I hope you like the smell of weed...it's smoked in public by the locals all day, every day.Tip: Follow the river to the waterfall - great private location, and can swim in the pool or climb/jump from the rocks. Tip: Go to the main road, and make a left....up past Heavenly Bay, past Tobingi's, and when you get to the cemetery on the left, turn left to walk in front of the cemetery....where the path splits, take the right path....where it splits again, take the right path (down a grassy hill)....walk through a couple of streams, and you'll find an amazing private beach with snorkeling that was better than the reef in Heavenly Bay. Great place to waste the day away.
There are plenty of things to see and experience in and around Castara, Tobago. Errol Roach, Roachees Tours, a certified guide raised in Castara and nearby Parlatouvier, took us fishing, showed us amazing corals, the tropical forest, Scarborough and villages. Knowledgable, generous and really pleasant guy who introduces you to the friendly island (nature and history)and its people in the best way!
