we found this only by Chance, as it was not mentioned in any guide book we had. So we were too late for a tour, which we would have like so much to do as Pearl S. Buck books accompanied our youth and we read them all.But we got the chance to walk the grounds by ourself and that was also very nice. We got some glimpses through the windows of her home and could so imagine how daily life would have been with her big family.
You will learn so much about Pearl Buck and her life in the midst of beautiful surroundings. Have been many times and will go again.
It's nice to have a great piece of American history in our own backyard. The Pearl S. Buck house is wonderfully preserved in a romantic setting.
Have visited the house and grounds several times with friends visiting from out of town and learn something new each time. Very well preserved and presented artifacts, with informative descriptions. Very helpful staff. Well maintained grounds. Go when the flowers are in bloom and allow a couple of hours.
Set on a back road. One of a kind home to a one of a kind author. The area has many artisans homes, museums, and attractions. Michener lived locally before Texas. Hammerstein, Stieglitz, and Georgia O'Keefe lived here.
I read her books when I was young and admired her novels. The museum educated how remarkable she was. She dedicated herself to helping children of mixed American and Korean heritage. Mixed children are treated badly in Korea. Her foundation has helped many children. The house, grounds and museum is a worthy museum to visit. Don't forget to visit Doyedtown too. There is a great downtown with good restaurants and stores.
I didn't realize what a great humanitarian Pearl Buck was until I took the tour. I enjoyed hearing about her life, her family, her books, and her travels. I could just imagine her taking care of her large adopted brood in this warm and welcoming home. She is an inspiration, and her life is a heartfelt tale. All the rooms were decorated in festive holiday decor, so that was an extra bonus. I only wish the guide would have told us more about Pearl's children, what became of them, and where are they now.
This was a nice refresher on her life and legacy while enjoying the beautiful grounds and gardens. Given that it was late in the growing season the volunteers need to be commented for the beauty, variety and shape of the flowers gardens. I enjoyed visiting with the friendly staff at the visitors center and the brief video. This is a nice tribute to Pearl Buck's life work and the legacy she left behind.
We are glad you liked your visit to the Pearl S. Buck House and are happy you share our enthusiasm for what a wonderful writer she was. We just wanted to clarify that Miss Buck was the first American woman to receive both the Pulitzer and Nobel prizes. Toni Morrison also holds that distinction as the second.
Went to an outdoor wedding here this past weekend. It was such a lovely place and truly leant to a beautiful day (perfect weather helped). Gorgeous place to host an event.
