With a live country three-some playing off to the side, it made the wait to get into the apple barn a bit more enjoyable. After attending Oktoberfest in Lake Geneva, we were out this way, so we decided to investigate this Orchard. The cider donuts were good, but as good as you'd buy anywhere else. What made this interesting was the Winery. You allowed you to taste up to three wines, made right here. All fruit-flavored: peach, apple, blueberry, strawberry, etc. They give you a taste in a shot glass, and let me tell you, those three "shots" warmed me for the rest of the afternoon!
We were hesitant to visit on a Saturday in October due to crowds, but we took other travelers advice and went at 2 p.m. Most families were on their way out, but it was still busy, but not intolerable. The apples are higher than what I would normally pay, but you are paying for the experience. You can take a wagon into the orchard or pumpkin field for free. Lots of other family activities like bounce house, fire truck playground, etc. The line for Apple cider and donuts was less than 5 minutes, but the line to the store and wine tasting actually had a sheriff deputy letting people in as others left. Overall, great place to visit. Everyone was friendly!
Apple barn has yummy wines, apples, strawberries, other produce and baked goods. They have a nice store of their products. This is a fun place to go and get pumpkins in fall! Our grandson had a blast picking out a pumpkin and having his picture taken in all the cute character cutouts. I highly reccommend them!
Huge orchard where you can pick apples by variety with a hay ride to get to where you want to go in the orchard. Awesome homemade sausage and apple butter food is wonderful! Petting zoo, rides, entertainment makes for a fun family day. If you don't want to pick apples go into the gift shop and browse shop and don't forget to buy your apples. Don't forget to sample the wine!
The strawberries here are super sweet! The prices were the best. This is a great place for strawberries better than other pick them yourself places. Try it. They even had port a johns and handwashing sinks. Hay in the rows so no mud to step through.
Touristy....I prefer to go during the week, when it's not so crowded. They've done a nice job in diversifying over the last 20 years; from just apples to a variety of things for sale.
When it comes the Apple Barn, everyone always associates it with the Fall and apple picking. But right now they have strawberries! And, they area making strawberry donuts, similar to their cider ones.. The strawberry season is not a long one, so be sure to call ahead to see if picking is still going on...it was over the 4th of July. Also, the new fruit wines that are made in the off-season winter months are now available for tasting and for purchase.
We had a fun time picking strawberries. They are only in season for a few weeks and we were luckily in the area at that time. A 15-20 minute drive from downtown Lake Geneva. A big bucket cost $8.50. It was a fun experience with friends, and something that you can rarely do. I would do it again. Check their website to see updates on what you can pick.
I know alot of apple-pumpkin tourists come in October. If you go also in Nov - they are not as busy. It is a great family fun day, food is awesome. I generally buy apples, donuts, and wine. Their apple cider is also excellent. For a full day, you can head West to Staller Winery, then south to Sorg's Meat Market.
If you want a great afternoon picking apples, sampling apple products and enjoying being outside then a trip to the Apple Barn should be on your agenda. In the fall, there is a maze, vendors and music. The cider is great!
