cleanliness is not a priority bears come up to camp sites
I love the outdoors and i try to go to all of the parks that are close by and i am looking forward to taking my grand kids when they get old enough to hike.
Want a great place to spend your day and enjoy a picnic, let your family explore trails and see some of the most incredible scenes our region has to offer. Then this park is a must-do. It has everything you want from a lodge with a pool to swift water if that should tempt you as well.
We live close by and visit there quiet often. Am very lucky to live so close to such a beautiful place , and the Restaurant is excellent..
If you're interested in some challenging hiking and/or magnificient geologic views, then The Breaks is the place to visit. I stood in awe at the numerous overlooks as I thought about how the river carved this canyon through Pine Mountain. There are a number of trails available, some more challenging than others. Make sure you do get a trail map and descriptions from the Visitor Center. About the only trails I would recommend for children (between 6-10) would be the Ridge, upper part of the Laurel Branch Trail and the Deer and Beaver Pond Trails. I would not recommend the lower trails near the river to any chilidren under 14 or 15, unless your children are very mature. These trails are demanding and are not be "messed around on."I stayed in the hotel located on the grounds. Reservations for these can only be made in advance and are pre-paid. The room was very roomy, had a great view of the canyon region and included a mini refrigerator. There were also extra pillows and blankets already in the room.
The overlooks are great. If a train is moving on the tracks below it looks like a toy train. Food is good in the lodge.
We visited the Breaks Interstate Park between, Virginia and Kentucky. The views were fantastic. They also had a Civil War Reenactment going on that weekend. You need to do some climbing to get to the wonderful views, but they are well worth all those steps.
Hike the Cold Stream Trail, then the Geological trail, They're beautiful in the Spring or fall and not too hot in the summer. Eat at the park lodge or at The Rust..k in Elkhorn, expect standard country cooking
Great Park that does a lot to entertain its guest. We were ther in a RV. Big campground but not very pretty. Would be beautiful in the fall.
They have a new water park ..it was very good ....Riding around the park is nice ,also walking around is nice ...We love it there ...
