if you are from areas where igneous rock are prevalent, especially basalt, such as the North Shore of Lake Superior, then this beach will be a disappointment. Of course, for the locales, where limestone and sedimentary rocks prevail, the dark color of the stone seems unusual (some say from the pyroclastic explosion that leveled Santorini Island). What can be said, is that black stone makes this a VERY hot experience if you walk here without shoes. The restaurants just around the corner from the beach in the village itself are fine for lunch fare, but they are not the best and at least for Chios a bit pricey.
When you pull up at a spectacular bay to see a man cleaning Squid outside the restaurant and presents it on your plate in less than 15 minutes you feel like you've truly died and gone to heaven. The beach and bay are quite stunning, the village is quaint, the surrounds wonderful. It doesn't get much better than this.
The name of this beach is much bigger than what it actually offers. We have seen a lot of more beatiful beaches on the island and could not really figure out why this one made such a big fame. Perhaps the cloudy weather did not allow us to see and appreciate its turqoise waters...
if you look for quiet place - go there!! very nice combination of black pebbles and crystal water. Only if you are pale - take some strong body lotion because the pebbles attract sun :)
Small village with beach and nice harbor with a lot of cruisers of small and medium sized. The taverns offer very good food and the landscape is very pretty. We were there in the sunset and the colors were very soft and warm. We were lucky to participate in a local fiesta. We spent a few hours and returned to the hotel late in the nigh
Huge beach, excellent in the afternoon, when the rocks are still hot... The main beach is fantastic (do not forget your diving goggles) and just over the hill there is another mile of unspoiled silence.
This stones are warm then you jump into cold water . i recommend this place highly. This place is maybe the best place to swim at the island.
Attracts coaches with tourists but is a nice place. Restaurants (fish) near the crystel clear water. Three vulcanic beaches (Mavra Volia) are crowded with Greek families. Parking near these beaches can be difficult but outside the town there is a large car parking.
Amazing black volcanic beach, but felt Emporios village a bit cut off from rest of Chios island. Wouldn't have liked to have been staying there.
The area is beautiful, beach is beautiful, stones are beautiful, houses around the beach are beautiful. Just go and enjoy Emperios beach.
