Nice view. Very worthwhile to check this place out. And it is free, so that is a bonus. Very worthwhile to check this place out. And it is free, so that is a bonus.
A great view of the Virginia MN valley and former open pit mine filled with water. Gift shop had lots of local crafts. Place a pin on the map of Minnesota, the USA or the world indicating your home.Good photo opps with the big equipment.
Free. Great view of one of the first open pit mines that helped make America great. Large mine truck on display and tourist information. Great scenic view, and right along hwy. 53. Definitely worth the stop.
Going to the Overlook was a peak in my trip, I absolutely loved it. Anyone traveling through the area should go enjoy it themselves.
The Leonidas Overlook is the tallest man-made point on the Iron Range. It was created from mining overburdon (the surface materials that are removed to create the open-pit mines). You can see for 15 miles in all directions. It's free and easy to find (less than a mile out of Eveleth. Definitely worth the short trip!
We drove up to the top and enjoyed a very nice view of the entire area including some of the mines and several area lakes.
