We went as a family the kids loved it.We went with one the oldest companies that does the everglades tours we felt like we we're on a private tour with friends. The only bad thing is the mosquitos go equipped!
We booked a rental canoe online to take to the Everglades and paddle nine mile pond. The booking was confirmed by email. When we arrived at the hostel the next morning, the lady we spoke to said that she was new, and didn't know how to do canoe rentals, but her boss would be with us shortly. I gave this lady my iPad so she had the booking reference number. After waiting about ten minutes, and asking if we were in the right place, another lady came out of the back office. The two ladies faffed about for another ten minutes or so, by which time it was becoming obvious that our chances of a canoe were getting slimmer by the minute! I asked what the problem was, and the second lady told us that they were really short staffed, she had to go to the doctor, and she was really sorry. She seemed to be out of it.I asked for a refund, she said that my card hadn't been billed, and we left.Hiring a canoe for a day would seem to be a fairly simple transaction, but quite beyond the capabilities of this business. This is my first 'terrible' review, and I hope my last!
Great full day adventure in the Everglades, with Anhinga trail (gators, turtles, birds galore), wet walk (gators, water moccasin, and just amazing beauty), kayak through mangroves (more gators and excitement). So much to see, so beautiful, so much adventure. Jeremy was an amazing guide, very knowledgable, interested, interesting, and really really enjoying sharing what he knew with us. He kept us safe from gators who weren't too pleased to see us, carried the kids through the deepest parts of the walk, and pointed out all sorts of things we wouldn't have noticed. I can't recommend this trip or Jeremy enough! We're a family of two adults and an 8-year old. We saw people as old as 70 going with another group, so it's good for all ages. The groups are kept small (ours had a family of 5 and our family of 3).
Awesome day with an awesome Tour Guide (Caren with a ton of knowledge)...still super impressed! Thanks so much, danke.
We went to the Everglades visitor center and had a tour into the Everglades. The boat guide was excellent and very funny.Got us wet on purpose!Alliogators moving next to the boat.Reasonable priced.
The Everglades National Park is beautiful. Couldn't believe how many alligators were right in front of us. Didn't have to go to an Alligator Park and big pay money to see them. There were several within a few feet of us. The birds and iguanas were amazing. Be prepared with your camera and good walking shoes. The boardwalk through the glades is long but worth it.
I did a Full Day Tour and Night Walk with Tours in the Glades, and it was one of the best experiences of my tourist life. Kayaking through mangroves and grassland filled with native fish and alligators...walking knee deep through swampy areas filled with cypress trees and exotic plants...watching a crocodile sleep on the bank and a manatee float lazily near a dock...seeing the abundant stars at night in Everglades National Park and seeing my flashlight reflect the eyes of swimming alligators and prehistoric fish...these are experiences that I will live with me for the rest of my life. The guide made all the difference. Caren is a trained biologist who is an expert on the Everglades, its history, and current developments. She gave me unique insight and context for what I saw and experienced, which made it far more meaningful than it would have been otherwise.
The Everglades national park was closed because of the gov shut down in oct but I could still do a tour in an environment similar to the everglades so I don't feel like I missed out :). It was really fun, a small intimate group which was good for my first kayaking trip because I was a bit nervous! We Kayaked through the mangroves and then out into some open water (it was a bay or something I think), saw some fishes, star fish, sponges but no crocs! Really disappointed that the park was closed but this was a good alternative. Karen the guide actually usually does tours in the national park so she was SUPER knowledgeable about the aqua life and nature. Recommend if you thought you couldn't see the 'real' everglades with the park closures!
If you want to see them we've got them and the "Glades" is the best place to spot the most of them. Take an airboat ride through the glades and you cannot miss them. There are any number of stopping places and rest areas, and gators farms. The variety of bird life is nothing short of amazing.
This full day in the Everglades was absolutely fascinating. We had a perfect start on the Anhinga trail watching about 28 alligators, turtles, the elegant and beautiful catbird, blue herons, white ibis and lots of other animals. We had a great guide, Caren, full of knowledge and experience and just wonderful preparing this exciting day for us. We went with our two kids, 11 and 13, who have a lot of outdoor and canoe-experience and they just loved this tour. The wet walk into the cypress dome was so much fun and again so exciting. We saw a venomous snake laying curled up under some farn, we saw other brown water snakes, we watched two alligators, we enjoyed a beautiful very rare orchid and we learned a lot about the Glades. Afterwards we went paddling with the easy to handle small kayaks through the mangroves. It was again a lot of fun, but something one shouldn't do without a guide. It was a real adventure and we heard many more stories and made our own discoveries, we even saw a carnivorous plant. This tour is the sort of experience which keeps you intrigued for your whole life.
