almost disguised by the buildings around, stade louis II is a sports complex with pool and offices and in the middle there is a track and field stadium with a 17000pax seating. If you have the chance to see a sports event there, go for it.
Modern stadium with excellent facilities in the Fontvielle area of Monaco. Easily reached by No. 6 bus from the centre of Monaco. Monaco football club's home ground.
Having last visited Monaco almost 30 years ago I was looking forward to returning with my 13 year old son to watch the Super Cup Final between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea. Perhaps it was a foretaste of what was to come but having arrived in Monaco at 9am we set about touring Monaco on foot and by guided bus tour before settling down for lunch at 2.40pm. Only to be told that I wouldn't be permitted a glass of wine over lunch because a blanket alcohol ban had been implemented across Monaco from 2pm until match kick off time 8.45pm! Bizarrely tables around us were full of people enjoying a nice lunch with bottles of wine etc but all had had the foresight, or good fortune, to order before 2.30pm - what nonsense! On to the stadium, the travelling fans soon got a feel for the stadium - decrepid, lacking atmosphere and atheletics track meaning spectators are far from the pitch. "We want to go home, we want to go home, this place is a .... ...., we want to go home' and quite right too. Awful catering facilities too. After 15 years in Monaco the Super Cup Final will be held in different cities beginning with Prague in 2013 and not a moment too soon - UEFA and His Serene Highness Prince Albert should hang their collective heads in shame.
Went and saw AS Monaco play Le Havre last week at the Louis II stadium in Monaco. apart from the actual game being very average, the whole atmosphere of the stadium was considerably lacking. The view from teh seats was good, however the whole structure and layout of the walkways and stairs and escalators was poor. it appears to be a dated stadium, which in itself is not a bad thing. I simply believe that it needs a re-furb.
Estádio de futebol é tudo muito parecido, mas o que interessa mesmo ver uma partida de futebol. Vale a pena acompanhar um jogo.
Just wanted people to know don't bother visiting the stadium on a Monday or Tuesday as NO tours on these days. Doesn't state on the website and looked on the morning of going. I also thought the receptionist very rude and unhelpful more interested in reading his newspaper whilst I had a very upset child and also finding the place a nightmare.
It was very poorly signed on the street & when you get tothe place there are no signs for seat numbers & lots of entrances to terraces. The staff not very helpful. we ended up having to walk past 60 people to our eventual seats. also very limited toilet facilites also poorly signed
It's possible to get a guided tour on Stade Louis II. It will cost you about 10 Euro and the guide speaks both french and english. It's not a big tour, but they will show you a swimming hall and inside the stadium. It's known for the UEFA Super Cup, an annual match (since 1998) between the winners of Champions League and Europa League. It's also known for the IAAF Diamond League, which is is an annual series of track and field meetings (Monaco is one of 14 stadiums around the world were this was held in 2012). The football club AS Monaco uses this stadium as their home ground, when they play in the french league. It's a club with rich history and good results, even if their not at their best for the time being. It has room for 18.500 spectators and is an all-seater. Prince Albert II has his own VIP-box. Not very strange because the royal castle is only a 15 minute walk from here. Well worth going to some kind of sport activity just to see the stadium and feel the athmosphere.
I was there for a festival over the weekend, and it was decent... The signage could do with some improvements so make sure you know which part of the Salle you need to go to .
