We stopped by here and went kayaking. We found the woman working here to be very friendly and helpful. The prices for the kayaking are very reasonable and we had an enjoyable trip. I would recommend stopping here.
We camped here in the spring of 2013. The spaces offer little privacy, but the setting is peaceful. That is until the very surly night host shows up drunk on his "Gator" utility vehicle. He and his buddies on the morning shift are the "Lunatics running the asylum". My wife and I could smell the beer from 6-10 feet away that night and wondered how he was allowed to endanger himself and others careening through the park. I went to complain in the morning and the day man empathized with him saying "You can't expect to be on-call and not have a little beer".......This place is a nightmare and the director of parks and recreation should fire all the current volunteer staff. Condo Warriors should stay in their condos.
This RV site is phenomenal. Full hookups, and so much space around that you feel it's your own private oasis. I could put three rigs on my site! Ponds and lakes surround us, wildlife abounds, you are allowed fires, beach minutes away, lots of bike trails and walking trails. Nirvana, and all for $25 a night. Unbelievable, I almost don't want to tell you how good it is...
We were here during a tornado in Mississippi . The effects that the land and sky go through when the weather shows it's face so prominently was a frightfully awesome sight to see and experience . I'm glad to have been wrapped up in Nature at that moment and that was the place to be . Will visit it again and take in the other moods that are always there to welcome the viewer .
This is our second time camping at Savannah's Rec campground. This is a county park and has all the features of a larger campground with out the price. They have full hook up sites, a laundry facility, great backcountry camping, a small walking trail with a lookout tower and a NEW DOG PARK! We couldn't be more excited about this because we travel with two large dogs. The park has separate sides for large and small dogs, a double fence entrance, shaded seating at a table for the pets owners and it's right inside the park. The staff is friendly and always willing to help. There is live on site security. It is close to everything you could want and the beach. This year we have noticed an increase of campers so we know the word has gotten out of how great this place is.
Always enjoy birding at this location, esp. for the season migrants. The park is great for wildlife photography (but remember, it's Florida, so if you go off on a trail - be prepared).
We have lived around the corner from this for the last 5 yrs, and just discovered what a great place this was. Very educational for children and adults alike. Lots of hand on exhibits, live animals, and displays about the Savannas. Will go back and back
Savannas Campgrounds on Midway Road has really cleaned up good. Years ago it was not the nicest place to camp; but they have really cleaned up the place and it is a nice quiet place to pitch a tent or park your RV.
The Savannas are a series of swamps and lakes that lie behind the dunes on the mainland side of the Indian River. Camping is available at the location off Midway Road and trophy bass lurk in the dark waters of the lakes and canals.
We had a wonderful time at this park and I can't wait to come back! Our campsite looked out over the marsh and the view was superb. We rode bikes, paddled around in our kayaks and reveled in the natural environment. The park is clean, spacious and scenic. There's a fenced dog run for small and large dogs.Did I mention wildlife? Turtles, birds, gators and all sorts of protected species can be found here. And all of it a short trip from the marinade and historic Fort Pierce.Loved it!
