This out of the way winery is worth the extra time it takes to get here. Enjoy the country drive on the way to this winery. It has very nice wines and the staff is very helpful and friendly. A big bonus is the fresh made pizzas. We set up our wine tour so that this was the last stop and we planned on eating here. We were not disappointed. We were traveling with 4 other couples and we all ordered wine and pizza ($16.00) to enjoy on the patio. It was an excellent stop and end to an enjoyable day. You need to stop here.
I did not try all the wines because I am pregnant but I took the tiniest taste of the Cab and I really enjoyed it. My friends mainly like sweet wines (unlike me) and they loved this place. I did enjoy the laid back atmosphere and the pizza was delicious. It got gobbled up quickly. The ladies working were also very nice. Overall it was a great time.
As other posts stated, this winery is several miles away from Fredericksburg Main St, and other wineries....but we enjoyed the drive...we saw deers roaming freely on the street...so, if you are driving to this winery, just be careful, and drive slow. Wines did have a unfinished taste. Our favorite was the Twilight Ride...even though it was a touch sweet for my taste.....Fresh hot pizza on site was definitely a plus....all in all, a very nice experience, and a wine glass to keep...
Their white wines and sweet wines were better than their reds I thought. This winery was really out of the way, but worth the drive. We saw wild turkeys and deer on the way to their location. They serviced food, but we did not have any. It looked like a cool place to hang out with a bottle of your choice. Their shop was not large, but they had good prices. Their wine tasting prices were the best that we saw.
We tasted 5 wines for $9.00, and purchased cheese and sausage for $8.00. Ended up purchasing 3 bottles of wine, a port, muscat and the nebuilla.
This was not the best winery we visited but was up there. Unlike most others in the area this winery is on the west side of town and it seemed a hike to get there, although in reality it was not a long or difficult trip. The wines were pleasant and nicely presented. It was worth the effort to visit
Get ready for this one! This is Texas, through and through! Although only 1 acre of grape vines, Chisholm Trail Winery is located on 80 acres of land, ranch style, with animals roaming free and just the most serene place you could ever find. And the winery itself is a very large building, countrified decor, just waiting for people to attend (which might have been the case if we hadn’t arrived only 20 minutes before close – Sorry Rebecca!) It is actually reminiscent of some 2-steppin’ country western dance bars from the past. Memories! The wines have some really cute names such as “Showdown”, “The Outlaw”, “High Noon II” and “Smart A-- Blush”. They also serve stone-fired pizza on the weekends, so plan a trip out. We suggest you make it a little earlier than 20 minutes to close, however! This was you can take in the whole experience. They even have wine-a-rita’s made for you ladies that like a fruitier drink. Please leave us a comment if you have tasted the pizza or danced on their big floor. We’d love to hear from you!Visited Dec 2013.
Their wood-fired oven pizza is superb... and the wine average. Fun setting; large restaurant; good service; excellent pizza; nice country surroundings.
We enjoyed the scenic drive and loved the saloon decor. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was so relaxing to get out into the country and enjoy the Chisolm Trail winery!
A couple miles off the main drag and down a dirt road just a little out of the way. Tasty wine at a great price.
