Went to Skydive the ranch yesterday for my first (but certainly not last!) Skydiving experience. Everyone there was amazingly friendly and helpful. Although, like I imagine most people I was very nervous, my instructor Steve "Utah" Webb made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. He also went out of his way to make sure my first jump experience was a great one. My friends and I loved the fact that we were all able to go up in the same plane. I should also mention that I bought the video and photo package, and it was well worth it. My cameraman Jerry did a terrific job capturing everything! I HIGHLY recommend Skydive the ranch for your first or ANY skydiving experience!
I started jumping at The Ranch 19 years ago because after a lot of research I found out it was the drop zone with better safety record in the northeast. At that time it was a small place and there was a small group of jumpers. Since then, this place grew to a big operation with lot of instructors and jumpers, more jumping airplanes and better and bigger facilities.I still have a lot of old time friends that I enjoy visiting every once and then,I do not jump anymore since I have some health problems but I visit the place for the good memories I still have.I did not rated it "excellent" only because I miss dearly the small family feeling of the 90's and those winter Sundays when the bad weather kept us watching tv, having some beers or just talking around a campfire.
Awesome time, my boyfriend loved his jump. Great landing pad to watch the divers come in, great pictures and video of a great view! Awesome staff, super chill and experienced with lots of knowledge about diving to share.
Amazing. My first skydive. Terrifying for sure but my instructor (Scott Clifford) was super nice and answered all of my paranoid questions. My only problem was that I had trouble popping my ears on the descent so I had quite a headache. Wear appropriate clothing too, it's a bit chilly at 13000 feet. Awesome time. Would come again.
A presto, amici del The Ranch!
Family jumped was an incredible experience. Beautiful day, great instruction, extremely fun. Go for it!
I was lucky enough to be in the area at the same time that two of my grandsons jumped. This is a must for anyone interested in having an incredible experience. It's especially beautiful in the fall as you can see the Catskill mounts. The staff was especially helpful and they take all the precautions necessary to make this a safe experience. The boys have done it before and say they will for sure do it again. Who knows, maybe grandpa will try it next year.
I have been skydiving for a few years and have dove at various locations around the US and this is by far the most professional place I've been. The equipment they use and the expertise of the professionals is unparalleled and really makes what could be a scary experience for first timers into a safe experience where you can enjoy the dive and not freakout.
I wanted to do something amazing for my Birthday so I decided to go skydiving! The experience did not disappoint! There are no words to describe the excitement and anxiety of free falling from a plane! My tandem instructor Eric N. provided a perfect balance of assuring safety and hyping the jump! His calm friendly confidence allowed me to enjoy the rush of adrenaline as we dropped from the plane, the free fall, the peaceful ride down suspended from a parachute and a landing so smooth I didn't even get grass stains on my sneakers! I was only disappointed it was over so fast! Thankfully, although it was a little expensive, I hired a videographer to record my jump and have relived the moment countless times!!! One week later I jumped a second time and loved it even more! Now I'm a student looking forward to my first solo Jump!It was 90 degrees on the ground and 60 degree at 13500 feet! Shorts would have been nice!My second jump was cooler! It was 65 on the ground and 45 in the air! Coming down it became so cold that I was shivering! Dress appropriately! Flight suits are available just ask! Tight fitting gloves and a hat would be good option on cooler days!
My first skydive was over 5 years ago at Mohawk Valley, which no longer is in operation. I loved it there, but I needed to find a new place. My sister told me about The Ranch and considering the price was way lower than the local Saratoga Skydiving/Duanesburg skydiving, I figured the 2 hour drive would be worth it. I am so glad we went to the Ranch!! Amazing staff, amazing facilities. They have planes that could accomodate our whole group of 7, with 3 of us having videographer jumpers as well. All of our tandem masters gave us an individualized instructional experience during the lead up to our jumps, which was cool. We all really liked our tandem guys. The plane ride was so enjoyable, and I got really nervous. My tandem guy and another were laughing at me because I was holding the straps the whole time. It was a nice comic relief :) My jump was amazing, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The sky was clear and the weather turned out beautiful even though it was raining all morning by us locally, so I was worried we were going to get rained out. We were the last group of tandems to go that day. The staff were awesome, they didn't rush us out and made us feel so welcome. Great group of people. Even the cashier remained friendly and nice when my dad was kind of being a grumpy old man about not wanting to take his necklaces off. Haha!CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK!
