A great family walk, with tailings and old mines to explore so bring a torch, and look for wetas and , wekas, I love the walk and the hidden rusty relics in the bush, next to old trail races, what a hard life the miners had
The nearest road the GPS can find is Maori creek road. From there, just drive straight and you will hit the gravel road. It was very cooling throughout the walk. The place is like a nature reserve. We went into the tunnel. Be careful as there might be puddles of water and uneven ground. Torchlight is a MUST!!!! It's pitch black!!!! We saw a few glow worms inside the tunnel. A round trip walk would take 45 min (longer if you want to take pic ). There is a suspension bridge at the end but note that it only holds 5 pax (4 if u are a fatty). All in all, it was a interesting way to spend the afternoon. Bf and I enjoy such off the beaten road tracks. Plus it's free too! Would recommend you to go if you have time!
Another great walk that displays the gold mining past of the area. There are some tunnels that you can walk through and see glow worms, and some huge water races that you can walk through.
Such a lot in a short walk.Amazed at the trench diggings. Really appreciated the information boards.
This walk is one everybody should do. It has been developed through the old chinese gold diggings with bridges. elevated board walks and well made tracks. With a torch you can explore some of the old gold mines and the detailed signs explain all.
This is a fantastic walk and experience. Starts of a little dull, but somewhere around the half way mark or later is a long mine that you can explore. You must take a torch with you though, or your experience will be really limited.Lots of mine mouths that you can't enter anymore, as well as other relics.Took kids aged 7 and 9 - both loved it. At time of writing there is a large scale mining operation happening beside the road on the way in - worth seeing just to see how destruction the hunt for gold is....
Bumpy gravel road-- very, very little signage. Really enjoyed the walk. Wish we had a flashlight to explore inside one of the narrow tunnels. Quite a bit of stairs. Lots of good signs to explain the process. Saw blue mushrooms on the walk.
This is a hidden treasure, a challenge to find but well worth it, we took torches to explore the tunnels and were rewarded with wet as and glow worms. Good walk with quite a few steps up and down but well laid out!
This was a excellent bushwalk and cave adventure. You definately need torches. There are several old gold mining tunnels. The bush is outstanding and the caves cool fun. The road out to the walk is shingle for part of the way and a little bumpy but fine for a normal car.You need a map as its not signposted till you get within a few kilometres away. You have to drive through a small mining area too which is a bit weird. The walk was about an hour but you could spend longer in the caves. Isolated but awesome. Shame some of the great walks are so understated.
You have to travel through a modern day gold mine to get to Woods Creek.Depending which way you travel it is a fun day excursion. It will take about an hour for an adult or almost two hours with children. The track is well graded and has wooden steps where necessary. It is not suitable for those who are physically handicapped.A torch can be of some assistance when going through the tunnel but is not a requirement. Those gold-miners were certainly determined men and women.
