Easy to find, reasonable and free parking and excellent content. I am not an "art person" as such but went in with some friends who are - so visited essentially for social reasons. I was pleasantly surprised to find the display areas were well lit, the place was quiet and invited a meditative contemplation. Later I found out that it used to be a church. I was not paying attention to the outside of the building as we walked in. Visit their website, http://foothillsartcenter.org, to get a sense of what special exhibits they might be having.
I went to the Foothills Art Center to see the Chihuly exhibit. It is a tiny place with a limited parking capacity. The staff was not very friendly.
Admittedly it was unexpected & incongruous to find an extraordinary exhibit of Toulouse Lautrec & la Vie Moderne in the Colorado mountains, but this little jewel of a regional museum in a former church ranks with major players in more urban settings. Accompanied by an informative film & beautifully displayed in attractive stark white galleries, fine French art-not often seen in the US-seemed right a home in the Rockies & although a hard act to follow, it will be interesting to learn what's featured next at Foothills. Original cards & souvenirs in the well-stocked gift shop enhanced the exhibit.
Great small museum that shows world-class art in a lovely environment. Well worth the time to visit.
I had never been to this museum before but wanted to see Henri's work. They had a very informative movie on his life and work, a nice selection of his works. They also had many other French impressionist works. It was great, only $15 to get in. I wish they would had sold more of his work in their gift shop.
We love this art center in an historic building in Golden. There are several exhibits throughout the year and a great holiday art/craft show from Thanksgiving through the end of the year. We always find great and unique Christmas gifts, from fiber creations to jewelry and blown glass Christmas decorations.
This art center is in a small former church, but sometimes, as for the textile exhibit, items are on display at the building next door. I always enjoy whatever they show and it is a must place for gift ideas before Christmas :-)
They are gettings significant shows in the past few years, and they always do a great job of carrying local art for sale in many different mediums.
My friend and I happened upon the FAC while spending a couple of days in Golden. The Colorado Watercolor Society exhibit was going on, and it was fabulous. The Center was also advertising for an upcoming Degas exhibit.
Was encouraged to seek out this art center and take in the 2014 Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Show. Terrific. The body of work was top notch. Will be top of my list each time I get to the Denver area. A lovely drive from Denver.
