If you are planning a visit to Denver add this to you travel plans. Beattiful 360 degee views to include both Denver and Golden. If you have time, come back in the evening to see the endless array of lights! It is said that you can see four states from this viewpoint!
The view is amazing. My kids and the family I went with were in aw of the mountains. Some had snow on them. It was a great trip but if you are not accustomed to the altitude like we weren't then you need to drink lots of water and be prepared for headaches and chest aches.
we are in the area from Texas visiting our son and had several hours on our own so we drove up the mountain a day after new snow fell on the ground. It was a beautiful day! The drive alone is worth the trip - just outside Golden and Lakewood...go up to the visitor's center, take your hiking boots or snow shoes and get to the edge for the spectacular scenery.
Drive West , up the hill from Golden on the Lookout Mountain road. It is a narrow winding road with switchbacks, there are several places to pull off the road to enjoy the view.
Easy trip up to the the lookout point by car. Watch out for the bicyclists!! Buffalo Bill museum was a treat as well.
It's what the name says it is. It's a small montain where you can sit on a rock and gaze out over Denver and it's surrounding areas. For western buffs, you can visit Buffalo Bill's grave here and go to the tiny museum built in his honor ..
Every time we go through Denver, we stop here. My first trip to Denver was the first time I saw mountains, so I guess it's a little special to me. The views are amazing; you can see for miles!
Nice views, not too far from Denver, some hiking trails, worth a stop if you have the time... I recommend driving up one side and driving down the other side, the road that goes from golden to lookout mountain has the best views of Denver
Lookout mountain is the peak located in the Colorado rockies front range immediately to the west of Golden, Colorado. It can be accessed by 1-70 four miles west of Golden, or by taking the lookout mountain road a mile south of Golden off of US Highway 6 (which is the better sightseeing route, affording vistas from Golden to Denver, to Boulder on a clear day. At the top of the mountain, there is a gif shop near the Buffalo Bill grave sight that has some interesting souvenirs (although the grave sight is not that impressive, it is an interesting historical location). The historic Boettcher mansion is also located at the top of the mountain, and walking around the grounds is a relaxing interlude. There is also a nature center on the Boettcher site that is worth visiting.
This was so much fun and some great views. If you don't have the time to drive to Pike's Peak let alone the long drive to the top of it this is a great alternative. Check out Buffalo Bill's grave too. There is a great shop and museum and great views of Golden and beyond. Food available in the gift shop - good sandwiches and fries.
