Largest selecton of Polish pottery I've seen. I found some hard to find glass Polish Christmas tree ornaments that they nicely boxed up for me.
The Polish Art Center offers an exciting journey through everything Polish, from holy cards of your favorite Catholics saints to the latest in polka music or Polish Euro-pop. The center specializes in amber jewelry and offers a wondrous selection of glass Christmas ornaments, humorous tee-shirts, greeting cards and lovely wrapping paper, stoneware, crystal and food items. You can find rosaries, dolls, and even egg-decorating supplies. Open Monday through Saturday from 930am to 6pm and Sunday from 11am until 3pm, the center is closed on holidays. Located on Joseph Campau, just around the corner from St. Florian’s Church, the center is an adventure in Polish culture that is certain to delight all visitors. Every time I visit, I find something intriguing to buy.
I've been going here since I was a kid, and this place keeps expanding! I love the variety of items (I bought a Polish saint card, a Pope John Paul ii medal and cross and a Polska Zippo-style lighter) and the friendliness of the staff. My only complaint lies with the prices, which are a little high. It's a favorite place of mine and my family's.
The Polish Art Center really isn't an art center. It is a store that sells Polish things. I suppose the staff is knowledgeable but the purpose of the shop is to sell you stuff not to educate. We expected more.
Attended a Pisanki (Polish/Ukrainian) egg decorating class at the center Saturday. What an excellent learning experience in a casual atmosphere. Our family group (adults/teen) shared the class with another group of grade school children with their parents. The class fee included all the tools and materials needed for the class. The time literally flew by, and we all took our masterpieces home along with pictures. What a wonderful time! There is so much to see in this lovely shop. The host, Joan or her staff are willing to help you find just the right gift or special piece.
Spent 2 hours here (of relevance for how long to feed the parking meter), and thoroughly enjoyed it all. From CDs to handscribed eggs to amber jewelry to pottery, dolls, papercut pictures, this place has everything Polish, all nicely arranged and lovingly explained if you ask the owners and their daughters.
We visited the Polish Art Center in Hamtramck not knowing what to expect. The store is located in two adjacent store fronts with metered parking on the street. We spent over and hour in the store, met the owner and the sales person (who were very helpful and friendly). The Polish Art Center is a wonderful collection of handmade articles from Poland. It is a great place to find a unique gift for that hard to buy for person. They have hand painted stoneware, amber jewelry, clothing, religious items, music CDs, Christmas decoration and ornaments, candy, carved wood, traditional dolls, and many other interesting and unique gift items from Poland. I highly recommend visiting the Polish Art Center and Hamtramck, I had not been to Hamtramck in a long time and was very excited about the area and the number of interesting businesses to check out. It was very easy to get too just minutes of I-94 at the Mt. Elliot exit. I will go back soon.
Located in Hamtramck, a city that sits within the city of Detroit, is this wonderful store filled with Polish goodies. I had gone here to pick up a few gifts. It was easy to find since it's located on one of the cities main streets. The store is much larger than it appears from the outside and every inch was packed with goods, mainly from Poland. There were books, cards, decorative items, folk art, food, Christmas ornaments and much much more, including soap that looked like pierogies. I bought two.The staff was wonderful as well. Everyone I encountered said hello and asked if I needed any help. One woman even suggested visiting the next door Hamtramck History Museum when I told her about having Polish roots. So, I did.I bought several items on my visit and I'm sure you will to.
I always have so much fun shopping at the Polish Art Center! They have everything Polish you could imagine - from language, geneology, and travel books, to food & candies, to beautiful amber jewelry, and everything in between! They have a wonderful assortment of Boleslawiec pottery with so many beautiful pieces to choose from. They also have Polish folk art workshops, including wycinanki (paper cutting) & pisanki (Easter eggs) along with supplies. I have taken the pisanki class and really enjoyed it. I recently went in to purchase wycinanki supplies and the staff was super helpful (as always). I have purchased or received as a gift many items from this store over the years and have never been disappointed. Stop in & enjoy!
This store is so colorful it heightens the senses as soon as you walk through the store! It is very organized. The people working there are very friendly. You can't walk out without finding SOMETHING you NEED!
