Visited this morning, very nice staff and facility. However, there was relatively little to see, as they are in process of changing out a bunch off exhibits. As a result, I was not charged admission (but did leave a donation).Wait a while until you visit.
Very nice staff, and interesting venue for arts, firearms, folk art and horticulture. You will be amazed of this hidden treasure of Huntington, WV
The conservatory was awesome. The variety of orchids was intense. There were several permanent exhibits and a few that change, so there is always something new. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
It's hard to find. People not friendly and once again not even remotely close to the University. They have a nice facility and some good displays.
Didn't expect too much (were we visiting West Va), but it was classier than we expected. Good exhibits. Nice use of our vacation time on a rainy day.
We were in town for another special event and included a trip to the Huntington Museum of Art while visiting the city. Who says you can't take small children to an art museum? This was the first exposure to the world of fine art for my great-grand-niece and nephew and they loved it! We especially enjoyed the conservatory area and the many beautiful plants... and were wowed by the poison dart frog (highlight of the little guys adventure). Thanks for the young Rembrandt memories!
A wonderful, well laid out small museum. It has a strong permanent collection with paintings, drawings and etchings from American artists Childe Hassam, Winslow Homer, Edward Shin and more. The museum and wall notes are thoughtfully laid out. It also has a lovely conservatory with a Chiluly centerpiece. Tuesdays are free. If you are driving through Huntington, WV take a trip to the top of the hill to visit. An added bonus is the beautiful drive to the top of the hill
We expected a below average experience, and were blown away by the size of the museum and the care that had gone into curating the exhibits. We especially liked the consrvatory which features a glass sculpture by Dale Chihouly, who is one of our favorites. The day we were there, there was an extensive exhibit of photographs by Ansel Adams, in addition to many more exhibits. you could have spent an entire day just learning about the amazing glass work done in relatively local factories. We recommend this highly.
There is an interesting botanical room, with a Chihuly glass sculpture. Good changing exhibits and very interesting shop. There is also a cool hiking trail with a trailhead at the parking lot. It is a short hike through the forest.
The Huntington Museum of Art is a true gem nestled on a hill above Huntington. For a city of it's size, Huntington is fortunate to have a museum of such quality. The exhibits are small, but well planned and executed. The staff and docents are friendly and knowledgeable. My husband is a native of Huntington, and we look forward to visiting the museum when we return for family visits. As other reviewers have stated, don't miss the conservatory and gift shop. We always manage to return home with something special from our visit.
