Don't do it on a bike as it is VERY steep. Beautiful scenery set in the middle of the Peak District National Park. Combine it with Speedwell
Very scenic, a lot of WOW! Factor. Tucked away until you get to it . A traditional pass with sheep grazing, quite a hike up there but you can cheat and drive!
This pass really takes you by surprise when you approach it on your way to Castleton. It is small but so beautiful. It's well worth walking it and then continuing on to tackle the Mam Tor ridge.
I love "special" roads and this falls into that category. Not as frightening as say Hard Knot or Wrynose Passesin the Lake District but still worth the drive or the walk if you are fit enough ..Beautiful Scenery ...
Twisting roads, huge cliffs, jagged rocks, sheep. An amazing piece of scenery. On route to Castleton and caverns well worth seeing
The road through Winnats Pass and the adjacent walks are beautiful and though some walks are demanding they are all worthwhile. It can get crowded and cars can be a problem
a truly beautiful place, a lovely drive into the village of castleton with its many wonderful walks.
Go ride it to appreciate the climb, when you see the stone wall at the top you know you have achieved it! Then take the family down it on foot, explore the caves and sit back smugly knowing you had beaten it..Really nice way to finish the Ridge walk and head back into Castleton to a welcoming pub.
We were on a motorcycle road trip and on our way to stay in Castleton when we rode through Winnat's pass. Unfortunately, we were in the tail end of ex-hurricane Bertha and the wind and rain prevented us from enjoying this stunning little road on our bikes, as we no doubt would have done in the dry!
Really scenic and good to have a walk up. It's not noticeable until you get to it either. Really worth a visit. The road itself is quite narrow.
