stayed in the park in a cabin, so we could make use of every hour of the day to see this fabulous park. For me one of the wonders of the world. Felt so privileged to see the animals in their everyday lives. Saw Brown Bear the first day and was wowed. Then the next day we saw a Grizzley and he was superb. Digging for grubs. Of course the Buffalo are in abundance and wonderful. This is a must and worth every penny. Feel very privileged to have seen this first hand.
Wolves, river otters (occasionally), buffalo, coyotes, many species of birds, deer, elk...year-round wildlife viewing. Few trees so you get long views across the open valley along a long valley. I like it best in winter because it's beautifully snow covered and there always is some wildlife to view. It's another world.
It was beautiful and we saw Bighorn sheep, a red fox, several coyote, and a pack of wolves. The only thing we regretted was not having binoculars or a larger zoom lens on our camera, as they can be so far away
This and the Hayden Valley are the premier wildlife viewing areas. Between two different spots we were able to see badger, wolves, coyotes, bison and mountain goats. You can tell where the wildlife is located by the large number of cars in parking areas.
Sometimes in life you lucky! And all I can say is, I got really lucky on my day at Lamar Valley. For as long as I can remember, I had an intense desire to see wolves in the wild. And my wish came true! Imagine seeing these magnificent creatures, long demonized by ranchers and hunters, and long extinct in the YNP area until their reintroduction in the 90's!I am still beyond ecstatic over this sighting! Yes folks, on the early morning hours of February 16th I saw 6 individuals of the Lamar Canyon Pack feasting themselves on a elk carcass. There they werey, in all their glory doing what wolves do: eating, mating, playing, resting, and then moving on. I could hardly believe my eyes, I laughed and cried, and laughed and cried...what an unforgettable sight!
Try stopping at Nez Perez Ford. We got chased away from our picnic table by bison and spent 20 minutes in the car getting a close up and personal view as the herd slowly ambled by. They finally waded across the river and disappeared. You might have the same luck - and at worse it's a beautiful spot for a picnic. We also saw elk, pelicans, geese, swans, and ducks. Bison are around all day, but the other animals are easier to find at dawn or dusk.
My grandkids, husband and I stayed at the Roosevelt Lodge because it was closest to Lamar Valley we would hit it morning and evening. Sometimes your stuck in a herd of buffalo, and sometimes up on the slopes. Prong horn sheep, look like something off the african plane. Wolves and I got to say it was such a thrill, the naturalists with their high powered scopes and the nicest people ever. They were always so helpful and gracious and let us look through their scopes to see the best scenes, in our case it was a pack of wolves with a buffalo it sounds horrible but it was super thrilling for us city folks. My grandkids have 2 favorite trips, Alaska and Yellowstone :)
valley在公园环路到东北出口的几英里处,这里可以轻易看到上千头美国野牛,熊和狼也经常看到,每天傍晚有很多人守着三角架拍摄动物,可以来回开车观察,风景漂亮
