Visiting Alaska in the winter is just as much fun as in the Summer. On a ski trip to the Alyeska Resort., Our trip leader booked a morning/afternoon trips to the Glaciers. Nat and Elizabeth were our gracious crew for our glacier adventure. They provided a spectacular vista for the glaciers in the area. It was an awe inspiring trip showing the vastness and fragile nature of the environment. A bonus was a very large calving of one of the glaciers and the ensuing wave! No crowds or bugs in one of the least snowfall years in Alaska..... Don't miss this trip for your bucket list!
Even though we headed out with Lazy Otter Charters on a cold and rainy day, our family thoroughly enjoyed the trip and we saw some awesome sights. We had taken a trip on a larger boat in Seward and enjoyed this as well but the smaller boat made for a much more personal and enjoyable trip. We had the opportunity to get close up to a fish hatchery where we saw jumping fish everywhere and over a dozen bald eagles patiently waiting for the fish to swim upstream! Mike and Kelly run a great family business and we wouldn't hesitate to take another trip with them as well as recommend them to others. I have to add like one other reviewer - that salmon spread is superb!! Mike was kind enough to wrap up the leftovers so we could take it with us! Many thanks for a great day!
Lazy Otter Charters was fantastic for our last Prince William Sound family outing. Mike's knowledge of the Sound and his personality is outstanding. He was timely in departure and pick up and his equipment and boats are top of the line. We will always utilize his services when venturing out in the Sound. Highly recommended.
I caught a ride from main bay to Whittier with Lazy Otter and Captain Mike, my experience was awesome and the views were amazing once in Whittier Captain Mike arranged a ride for me on a charter to anchorage and gave me ride in his personal vehicle to the other end of town in the rain to get on the bus. My experiences with this outfit have been fantastic and I highly recommend!!!
We spent a perfect Sunday the end of June on Prince William Sound with Captain Mike and we were blessed with having Captain Dale with us as well. The weather was perfect, the sea otters entertaining, Surprise Glacier was very active as we enjoyed our lunch (no other boats around), the scenery was breathtaking, the puffin colony unique, and the day was topped off with whales! We had contemplated booking with the larger cruises, but we are so happy we spent a little more and had a boat to ourselves for the day, and knowledgeable captains to provide us with history of the area. Very worth it. Highly recommend, especially for adults to spend a day away from the crowds. We plan to return!
We cruised with Lazy Otter a few days ago and had the best day ever! We only had two in our party and were able to do a share with a really nice couple. The sun was out which made the day even more special. We saw some coastline, glaciers, and had a picnic on the beach. It was truly amazing! Nathaniel even recommended a great place for dinner which ended up being great. I highly recommend Lazy Otter and I do not say that often.
We were a group of 5 and only one of us was really interested in the tour. The others went along. It was unforgettable. Well planned but a lot of flexibility for what we wanted. This is a great activity and one that is well worth it!
Spent a day sightseeing with the family last month. We had a super time and experience from the first time we contacted Kelly with an enquiry. Booking from Europe makes it difficult in calling and organising but they were most helpful in the emails and the payment of the deposit. On the day of travel the weather was poor at the outset but Nat our guide was great and explained how we would be able to adjust where we went and the timings according to how the weather progressed. The weather cleared almost within the hour of us setting off and we managed to see most of the wonders of the sound. Nat constantly tried to find the wildlife for us and whenever he found some (Eagle hassling the birds, Porpoises tracking the boat, Puffins, Humpbacks, Sea Lions, Otters) he did his best to allow us take photographs by killing the engine or turning the boat to allow us the best view or to prevent frightening the locals. At lunch time he dropped us on a beach as requested and moved the boat offshore to monitor what was going on. Our packed lunch provided by Kelly was excellent with Coffee, Drinks, Cold Meat, Salmon Paste, Salad, Breads, Cookies and ample for the four of us. The salmon paste was gorgeous! After lunch and some time scouring the rock pools, Nat collected us and brought us to see more of the sights, Esther Passage and Surprise Glacier, we had it all to ourselves and again Nat was so relaxed about letting us see whatever we wanted. At lunch he had been on the radio to other boats checking if any whales had been sighted and brought us to the right area where we spent half an hour alongside a whale as it surfaced and resurfaced. He spent so long that we missed the tunnel time out of Whittier but we didnt care.Overall the real star of the day was Prince William Sound and its awesome scenery and wildlife. However Lazy Otter did absolutely everything that could be expected in showing it off to us and were so friendly and flexible. We know that we did absolutely the right thing in booking a charter from Lazy Otter for the day and not getting one of the big tourist boats where we could have been a slave to their schedule, might have been scrambling to see through the crowd and would not have had the superb hospitality and friendliness of Nat (and Kelly).
Our family group had a great time on half day trip. It was worth paying the extra money to have the boat to ourselves and personalized attention from Deb and the captain. We saw a kittiwake rookery, humpback whales, dall porpoises, and an otter from far off. We visited Blackstone Bay, viewed the tidewater glaciers, saw a small calving, did a beach landing, saw so many waterfalls we lost track! Lunch was good, cookies very good. Thanks for a great trip.
This was perfect for our group of 10 (ages 70 to 7). Definately worth the extra cost. Deb was so caring and knowledgeable. Lunch was great as well :)
