I lived in Hawaii. It's good for day or night . Night is special. Be secure aware. There can be trouble makers up there from time to time.
Great place to shoot the sunset. As always the clouds need to be working with you. Once you have given up on taking any more sunset shots you can drive a short way down and pull over for some long exposure shots of downtown. Drive down slowly and look on the left for a small area to pull over.
We did this on our first day. It was a nice way to see Honolulu. The view was good, but as the week went on it was definitely not the best.
Very scenic and winding roads to get there but well worth the trip. If I was with my wife this would've been a perfect place for a romantic picnic for 2. Best photo opportunity on island.
Every time we go to Hawaii we use the "Ultimate - insert island here - Guidebook" It said the Tantalus drive was a "must do". While it was a very nice drive, it was not spectacular. The Road to Hana drive in Maui is spectacular... Anyway, we stopped here, and it was worth it. Great view of the city. I imagine that staying for the sunset here would be great. Definitely worth it.
Fabulous views await visitors once you get up about 1,009 feet. From Dismond Head to Waikiki to Honolulu airport, you see everything. No cost attraction. Bring your cameras!!!
Bring a blanket to sit out on the grass. Have a picnic if you have enough time and bring the pups if you wish! Stay until the sunset. You'll get a great view of over Waikiki area. This only get a 4 because the hikes on the island are the ones that give you THE BEST views. But for one that you can easily drive to, this was great. It's quick and easy.
This is a great place to get a good view of Honolulu. I frequently take guest here and they always love it. During the day you can go to the lookout in the park and get about a 160-170 degree view. At night the park is closed, but you can park by the road and see a nice night view although not as extensive. Can be crowded at night as several tour companies run tours to here. Do not need a lot of time here, but it is not a long drive and well worth the trip.
Got this drive from a guidebook and SO glad we did this!! I was probably my favorite thing we did in Hawaii! We did the Tantalus/Round Top Road drive. It's a twisty-turny drive up a mountain that will give you spectacular views of Diamondhead and Wakiki Beach. The road is very small and very secluded, except for the occasion long-boarder hauling at break-neck speeds down the hill. Which was a sight to see in itself. The drive doesn't take long -- Take my word -- DO THIS!!
On your way up the mountain stop at this park for a great view.BUT don't go alone if you can help it. It is isolated and unfortunately we have criminals who have no Aloha spirit and will take your belongs - from you and maybe from your car! So if you are a hiker type with no expensive jewelry or equipment it is a good place to get away for a picnic. Otherwise continue to the top for a spectacular but "distant" view !
